So much worth celebrating! Huge thanks to @matthewpennycookmp.bsky.social for steering this through Parliament. And well done to @generationrent.bsky.social team and all those who’ve campaigned so hard for this over many years.
UPDATE: We did it!

The Renters’ Rights Bill has now PASSED through the House of Commons! We expect it to reach Royal Assent shortly.

This is a huge win after years of campaigning by renters. There's more to do, but this is worth celebrating!

The Renters’ Rights Act is NOW LAW!

Soon S21 evictions, which have forced millions of people out of their homes for no reason & with just 2 months notice, will be a thing of the past.

This is what our movement can achieve when we stand together.

The Renters' Rights Bill has been APPROVED by Parliament!

This confirms the ending of Section 21 alongside a host of new measures to improve our security and the quality of our homes.

The legislation is the result of over a decade of campaigning from the renter movement. A moment to celebrate.

Laughable article in The Telegraph claiming the tribunal system will bring in de-facto rent controls.

If only! Our polling showed nearly 70% of renters have never heard of it, let alone how to use it.....

Brilliant piece by @willdunn.bsky.social

High rents allow a wealth transfer from young to old, with landlords taking spending away from goods and services and denying capital to other, higher-velocity businesses. They are a brake on the economy.

Our research in The Guardian today.

Councils are essentially bribing landlords to the tune of over £30m per year just for them to agree to rent out their homes. It's a senseles waste of our public money.

Highest single incentive was over £15k!

As welcome as the Renters' Rights Bill is, there's still a piece missing - no renter will have genuine security in their homes until action is taken to regulate rent increases.
