If ICE agents believe they have blanket immunity or that citizens have no right to record them, it’s up to the rest of us to disabuse them of that error.

A free society depends on public oversight of government force, and on courts that uphold that freedom. @walterolson.bsky.social
There's a Right To Record ICE Raids--and There's No Blanket Immunity for Raiders
Notwithstanding pronouncements from leading officials of the Trump administration, the consensus of federal courts is that the Constitution protects the right to record immigration raids, and federal ...

Worth bearing in mind that illegal entry is a misdemeanor and being unlawfully present in the country is not even a criminal offense, but a civil one. This is the equivalent of saying we need to torch the Constitution & send in the SWAT team to catch jaywalkers & people with overdue library books.
We hear about how pro-immigrant side is extreme. There is literally nothing more extreme than this statement. Being willing to sacrifice the country’s foundations for an evil goal

When you totally paid attention in your high school Spanish class and still remember what two or three words meant.
Doesn’t LA have the second largest Mexican population after Mexico City? Los Angeles is spanish for The Angeles. What’s wrong with freedom of speech today vs yesterday? If we can’t fly another nations flag can how can we sing the national anthem? Is the constitution dead? What are you saying?

I know a lot of people don't want to hear this, but it needs to be said. Testosterone influences muscle development. That means biological males have a physical advantage over biological females despite what social roles they wish to adopt.

We can respect trans people while still recognizing this.
A lot of Very Online people underestimate how much stuff like this turns off the average normie. Many liberals oppose this—not because they dislike trans people—who deserve compassion & respect—but because it is...very clearly unfair. Acting like it's not just looks crazy.

How Large Does a Large Language Model Need To Be?
Large language models can have billions, or even trillions, of parameters. But how big do they need to be to achieve acceptable performance? To test this, I experimented with several of Google's Gemma 3 models, all small enough to run locally on a single GPU. Specifically I used the 1 billion parameter model, the 4 billion parameter model, and the 12 billion parameter model.

This is deranged. Jan. 6 defendants were repped by one of the best public defender offices in the U.S. They were more likely to be released pretrial & got comparatively light sentences. SCOTUS threw out a bunch of convictions, which almost never happens. They got gold-plated due process!

Making LLMs Useful with Function Calls and Embeddings
Large Language Model AIs like Google's Gemini and Open-AI's GPT can be interesting to play around with even in a simple chatbot like Chat-GPT. But those chatbots largely waste their potential. Their understanding of natural language is impressive, but their "knowledge" is limited to what they were trained on. But that's not the limit of their abilities. By incorporating other data such as external APIs, they can be made much more reliable and effective.

People won't be able to afford their medicine because the idiot in chief doesn't know what the phrase "inversely proportional" means.
Trump on his plan to impose tariffs on pharmaceuticals: "All I have to do is impose a tariff. The more, the faster the move in. It's very simple -- it's inversely proportional, the higher the tariff, the faster they come."

Stocks are soaring because it's always great when someone just stops hitting you with a hammer. But when they stop, the next step is to take the hammer out of their hands.

Congress needs to take back its tariff authority. And we need to keep saying it until it happens, in this Congress or the next.

I know Picasso was a 20th century painter but it's still a bit jarring to watch a Monty Python sketch where they refer to him as a living person.

I can. Congress can get its act together and override all this.
With all our learning, none of us can think of a way to relieve a global crisis that is largely if not entirely attributable to a single individual.
It's darkly funny that from the perspective of investors, a circuit breaker (not the literal ones on the exchange, but rather some sort of offramp) to stabilize the market seems more elusive than when we were facing a literal global pandemic.
