Classic agricultural methods boosting biodiversity!

Soils of surface-drained grasslands retained more moisture than soils of deeply drained grasslands. Moisture caused earthworms to contribute to soil processes and being available as food for meadow birds.

Using GPS telemetry, male black-tailed godwits used mudflats and adjacent saltworks, females a wider array of habitats. Females showed high foraging activity on small arthropod prey in rice fields & saltworks, compared to males eating larger polychaetes on mudflats.

While most black-tailed godwits make at least 1 stop around the Mediterranean on their way south, two youngsters found their way to Senegal in single non-stop flights. W1WCCG really took our breath away. This first-time traveller covered >4700km to Senegal in 50 hrs.

#MolluscMonday Neither nautiloid nor ammonite, this is an early ammonoid, Timanites keyserlingi (Order Agoniatitida) of Devonian age. The large body chamber in this specimen is sediment-filled, whereas the chambers forming the phragmocone are infilled with calcite.
