ISO-NE and NYISO did make exigent circumstances filings with FERC on Friday 🔌💡

Basically saying "we need to do something right now, please approve, even if it's not perfect" (snipping ISO-NE)

The Churchill falls MOU is mortgaging our future

Just to toss some MOU thoughts on here;

It costs less than 0.1c/kwh to make power at the existing Churchill Falls site.

Power from new hydro builds will likely be 10-12c/kwh. New nuclear is suggested to be 16c/kwh.

Rate payers on the island will get none of the 0.1c power. That's bad.

The paradigm shifts on a winter peaking grid.

All those heat pumps need a lot of electricity when it’s cold.

Value of solar declines, and wind might not be there when you need it. People point their finger at gas when it doesn’t perform, without being honest about what makes it the keystone
The Growing Challenge of Winter On the Grid

Due to electric cooling, summer is generally the time of peak demand in the most of the US. As electrification continues, many areas project narrowed or dual peaks between seasons, while some are expected to flip to winter peaking entirely.

Sometimes you gotta make your own graphs for the government after they've spent years in negotiations and are running ads pretending its done

The Speaker of the House has confirmed the House of Assembly will reopen Jan. 6 to debate the Churchill Falls MOU. PC leader Tony Wakeham is now calling for an independent PUB review, release of the 2023 Expert Panel Report, and to engage expert panels for each project. #nlpoli

I'm sorry blue sky I've already cross posted so much we are hosed on this new churchill deal tho. Qc will have rights to 80% of the juice in Labrador and still well below market rates.

Dog shit deal for us in particular after 2041

EDF - also known as France 🇫🇷 - has taken an equity stake up in an on island wind to ammonia project.

They intend to work on bringing it to final investment decision.

This is not great news if you don't like these projects and wish to protect the landscape.

Our helpful robots take data from NS and NL, so the gap is from a period of NS reporting going down.

We are hugging our local maximum of ~380 mw right now, getting up to 360 ish.

This is as good as it gets, for now

I cannot say this enough- Jesse is the most correct person I've ever met
How do we make nuclear the anchor for flexibility and firm capacity?
Here is my basic proposal.
Let’s start with a 350MW Gen IV reactor. This is basically the Natrium in round numbers, but we could use others, and we can adjust the ratios of turbine / core etc to suit the system.
*ANY* ~500C+ works
