Jonny Perez ranks 19th in MLS for goals and assists per 90 minutes among players aged 22 and under at 0.41

I didn’t realize how few minutes he’s played this season. It took him some time to win a spot and then the double suspensions

He could really heat up with a run of starts

Only 33% of NSC’s shots have come from outside the box

This is the 7th lowest rate in MLS

Nashville has the 6th highest % of shots from inside the 6yd box

To quote BJ “we’re not anti-crossing, we’re pro good decision making,” And the same can be applied to long-distance shots

NSC has produced only .5 xG in 2 out of their last 4 games

Previously they only had 5 games with less than 1 xG under BJ

And 2 games with less than .5

With 6 goals and 7 assists, the NSC fullbacks are playing like a high-end DP

They’re critical to everything NSC does, from progressing the ball out of the defense up to the final product

I took a look at their contributions to the team 👇👇👇

On Saturday, Tony Husband (Or was it Ross Smith?) compared Eddi to Diego Chara

Here's Eddi over the past year compared to Chara's All-Star season of 2019. Definitely some similarities

Rolling xG:

A 7-goal outing will have the GF sky high for a while. But, it looks like 50 goals wasn't a high enough target.

Defense has been good. Part of that is a softer schedule.

NSC has the best xGD in the East. This team could push for top 4

A battle of 2 sides. NSC down the right. CLT down the left

Yazbek is really advanced. That’s what he brings compared to Brugman
Nashville SC: 2 (0.56 xG)
vs
Charlotte FC: 1 (1.37 xG)

From Jim Curtin's trusted assistant to The Dad Who Stepped Up for the #USMNT to the architect of a paradigm shift at Nashville SC, it's been a long, slow climb towards the top for BJ Callaghan.

We had a good conversation about all that and more yesterday:

Sam Surridge doesn't get enough credit for his ability to score in bunches.

Since he signed in the summer of 2023, he has 5 MLS games with multiple goals.

Only 5 players have more during that timeframe

Benteke
Arango
Messi
Suarez

Can we chill out now?

Surridge is an average finisher. He was always going to be fine. I just didn't expect him to regress to the mean in 1 game. But 4 goals from 5 shots will do it.

He's now 1 goal off from the lead in the Golden Boot race

Nashville SC has 3 of the top 7 largest xG victories in 2025 according to ASA

1. Vs Chicago
2. Vs Portland
3. Vs RSL

Nashville also owns 2 of the top 4 largest xG victories recorded on ASA since 2013

1. Fire 2023
2. Fire 2025
April 28, 2025 at 1:23 PM
There have been 21 goals in the last 5 Nashville SC games

That is the 2nd most in a 5 game stretch in club history. Bested only by the stretch below 👇 in 2022

Matthew Corcoran was the FotMob player of the match tonight in Huntsville

94/102 Passing
12/14 Long Balls
4 Chances Created
1 Assist
7 Recoveries

Frankly he's way above this level. NSC's midfield is tough to break into at the moment but BJ has to find a way to get him minutes

I pulled some data on Sam Surridge’s finishing and why he’s been struggling this year

Some criticism of him this year is fair but it’s also a small sample size right now. He’s shown to be better than this

Sam Surridge's Goals-xG total is -3

He's scored 3 fewer goals than expected. The worst mark in the league

Obviously a small sample size and he will return to form but it's not good enough right now

Patrick Yazbek is 1 of 7 players in the league who have played more than 90 minutes and average.

90+ Short completion %
90+ Med completion %
85% Long completion %

Nashville SC’s defense isn’t getting the credit they deserve

They’ve conceded a handful of penalties which hasn’t helped

Attack is getting the plaudits but the defense is as sharp as ever
As promised, here are the MLS Eastern Conference *goals against* xG tiers after Matchday 8. Fewer is better here!

2024 shots per game compared to 2025

NSC is creating 3.6 Good+ chances per game in 2025 compared to only 2.3 in 2024

I dont think the NSC forwards are bad finishers. In 2024, they just didn't get enough chances and 1 miss was back-breaking. That isn't true in 2025
April 16, 2025 at 9:35 PM
