🗳️Ahead of NYC's early voting, I wrote a 'mayoral policy guide' on each of the candidates, not just on general issues but also stuff like fed enforcement activity.

I'll touch on some highlights here, including policy recommendations from legal experts and community advocates:

We can participate in democracy and be flawed while also having non-negotiable. No nazis. No racists. We aren’t abandoning trans people. Triple the minimum wage. Universal healthcare. Reproductive freedom. Etc etc etc. Stand for something! Appeasement accomplishes very little.

Cuomo: Mamdani "gave the finger to the Columbus Day statue—that's what we call a DISGRAZIATO."

(turns to Sliwa) "Do you know what that means?"

also not asking candidates about their plans for climate change safeguards when the city is flooding everywhere is wild imo

liked that mods were pretty strict w the candidates and quick w the fact checks. I think it’s a shame these debates still spend SO little time on immigrants, only bothering to mention the threat of IC3 agents in our city when they’re talking about the president, especially for “a city of immigrants”

cuomo and sliwa *still* butchering mamdani’s full name is annoying the hell outta me—did they not get any training on that by their team?? every time they butcher his name it reminds voters that they may be out of touch for a city as diverse as nyc

someone check on bill de blasio cus his ears gotta be buuuuuuurningggg tonight with how much he’s being invoked in the mayoral debate lol

this is pretty insane and why Democrats aren't making more noise about this is beyond me www.salon.com/2025/10/08/a...

rewatching Gilmore Girls and there's an episode where they mention buying books on Amazon because rory's a nerd and that was the only thing that Amazon used to sell back then: just books.
twice a year the entire U.S. press becomes a marketing extension of a single billionaire-owned retailer, and nobody in any position of editorial power thinks it's weird or gross

as Dems vocalize to the public that the crux of the shutdown is disagreement w/ Republicans over healthcare provisions, GOP strategy seems to be to pass blame onto undocumented immigrants who have nothing to do with it - more so now when many folks are scared of getting abducted in unlawful arrests
Vance: "If you're an American citizen & you've been to the hospital in the last few years, you've probably noticed wait times are especially large & very often somebody who's there in the ER is an illegal alien. Why do those people get healthcare benefits at hospitals paid for by American citizens?"

I’m at Foley Square for the Journalism is not a Crime rally.

A very funny dynamic is that this rally is to support us but we can’t help but be in coverage mode. (The support means the world.)

With floor action ground to a halt by Speaker Johnson over Dem amendments on the Epstein files, House Democrats are now using them to jam up committees.

Includes Appropriations, Energy & Commerce, Financial Services, and Education & Workforce, which just shut down as Rs try to figure what to do:
