It took me about three months to get here but...

Here's a 🪶 for (nearly) every species of bird, with colors extracted from wikipedia descriptions.

Since I am kinship posting, there is also reciprocal kinship terminology in which mother's call their children "mother". It ain't rare! Kinship terms just don't, in general, mean specific biological descent relationships. They are much more fun than that linguistics.stackexchange.com/questions/28...

This time of year in central EU, I am reminded that the root meaning of "sky" is cloud. The color of the sky is gray, the heavens unseen are blue, and space is a radioactive void. In March, the Sun may appear once more. Until then, we eat potatoes and dream.

If you ask someone today to name the builder of Hadrian's Wall, they would give you a funny look. But historical memory is odd, and right up to the 1800s we forgot who built it.

Until in 1840 John Hodgson, an obscure Northumbrian clergyman, published the LONGEST footnote in history... 1/22

Actually... from my reading of the artists' basic income report, the government did not earn money back from the scheme (although its costs were offset 37%)

Most gains were societal and came from putting the artists' improvements in wellbeing in € terms

BTW this "Frequency Reduces Difficulty" post from @martinfowler.com is the origin of the mantra "if it hurts, do it more often" (at least, it's where I learned it). It's amazing how broadly this applies.

bliki: Frequency Reduces Difficulty
"If it hurts - do it more often". Good advice if the amount of pain raises exponentially with the time between actions, such as for integrating software.

There are only a few functions to learn, but don't be fooled! Small 📦s can still be powerful.
