Update to this: I'm starting the process of de-Google-ing, and did my morning crosswords in Mullvad instead of Chrome. With a functioning ad and tracker blocker, 3 crosswords that usually run 3 GB only took up 214 MB of memory. 2.8 GB of ads and trackers.
The most complete encapsulation I can find of the current state of technology:

Complete AAA game Need for Speed Underground 2 (PS2, 2003): 1.3 GB
USA Today crossword powered by Arkadium (browser tab memory usage): 1.4 GB

Ronin. John Frankenheimer has never been equaled in filming car scenes.
What's the single overall best car chase in cinema history? One that almost has everything you would want from a car chase?

It's not a bold or original answer, but I think I have to go with the French Connection

This evening's ASMR cricket match is Magicians vs Spark(le)s. Just saw maybe my first southpaw bowler, and I'll be honest I have no idea if that makes a difference like it does in baseball.

So the final result with this ancient budget laptop is a wfh terminal. I installed the full lubuntu, and it runs Gmail and the web application I need to use most in Firefox. Other stuff can get done when I'm in the office, which will hopefully help me separate the 2 just a tiny bit.
I just found my 15 y/o budget laptop. No battery, bad HDD, but powers up. Stuck an 80GB drive in, installing lubuntu now. 1.1 GHz dual core CPU, 3 GB RAM. Not even sure what I'd use it for. Guess I'll see how it actually runs. Screen's janky af, probably have to use an external 🫤

Every one of these is just the dollar store brand version of Washing Machine-era Sonic Youth, and it sucks.

SY was awesome. Sucks that there's an entire genre of bands just copying them very badly.
Every indie rock band now is one cute lady and three scruffy-looking dudes.

Guyana's Realeanna Grimmond is a power batter. 2 4s and a 6 for 14 runs on 11 bowls.
Baseball equivalent is a 2B/HR hitter with a .220 average.

MLK Day update: trash and recycling got picked up again. Wanna take bets on the melanin levels of the guys doing the pickups here in New Orleans?
Everything you need to know about America is encapsulated in this fact:

Today, Labor Day, every bank and law office is closed, but the trash and recycling got picked up on time.

So the suck part about NZ Super Smash is that the women are the matinee opening act for the men's matches. The lucky part is that makes their matches start right around 7PM Eastern/6 Central. T20 matches run about 2 1/2 hours so it's an easy watch.
Alright. The Rangers are cooked for the next decade, the Knicks are in their mid season discombobulation, and the Yankees took the off-season off. I'm back on my bullshit*.

American schools are so bad Americans think the Colonial Coup was about what was being done and not who it was being done to.
He really is doing all of it.

Frustrated former high school bullies? That's just cops. ICE took the cops' rejects, the army's 4Fs/section 8s, and America's creepy uncles.
I swear DHS recruited a bunch of frustrated former high school bullies as ICE agents. And they really had to explain to them that hurt feelings don’t justify brute force.

LEAKED: After the ICE shooting of Renee Good, agents received a mandatory “legal refresher” on civil rights and use of force.

"We can fix him" pitcher for the Yankees ✅
Being a Yankees fan during the off-season is just a neverending stream of old guys getting minor league deals, "we can fix him" pitchers, and a massive overpay for a guy who just had the best (by far) season of his career. The only big question is which 2 months of the season they'll play good ball.

It's just gonna be him and Pete Hegseth comparing notes on their SA/harassment techniques, isn't it.
Update — Here is what the new apparent CBS News segment "Whiskey Fridays with Tony Dokoupil" may look like:

My favorite Twitter prompt was "RT this with your home river," so reskeet this with your home river.

lol you'll need at least 8 more to account for the Democrats who caucus with the Republicans
With Trump going full authoritarian on Venezuela-Greenland, ICE, and the Fed, the response has to be serious. Four Republican senators (Tillis, McConnell, Murkowski, Collins?) could announce they’ll caucus for now with the Dems to give them control of the Senate to check Trump.

"...severe risks to Americans, including wrongful detention, torture in detention, terrorism, kidnapping, arbitrary enforcement of local laws, crime, civil unrest, and poor health infrastructure."

Wait is this telling Americans why they should leave Venezuela or what awaits them back home?

Apparently happening now?
Is this the summer when everyone joins me on the "no, Drury isn't the worst gm in the league, but he's really f'ing bad at everything but margin trades" train? Sources say yes.

I'm not really paying attention so I don't know who's in net for the Bruins but he let the Rangers score 2 so he's totally washed or severely injured. Send him up to that nice farm upstate where all the old dogs go.
