Literally yesterday I was in a rabbit hole about Dr. James McCune Smith and his abolitionist work with Fredrick Douglass to combat that legislation. They created a committee of abolitionists at the time just to work on organizing resistance against it.
Absolutely. And I need everyone to read up on the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 for full(er) context.
I do appreciate that elected officials are starting to pivot to comparing ICE to KKK members and slave catchers instead of Nazis. Nice touch for Black History Month
