I miss democracy. Sunsets, writing, coffee & mid-century design are my thing. Gen X. Human mom. Loss mom. Cat mom. Ally. LCSW. School social worker. Just as messed up as everyone else trying to survive this human experience.
@govpritzker.illinois.gov is exactly right when he talks about red states and their lack of sensible gun legislation contributing to the gun problems in Illinois. Look at these monthly gun shows held in Crown Point, IN - less than 30 minutes from the IL border. @nicollewallace.bsky.social

As a first-year oncology fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City I had the privilege of rotating through all of the clinics. Lung, beast, ovarian, leukemia, lymphoma. 1/7

The emaciated cow with bloodied nipples in this photo is just horrendous. The treatment of farm animals is so horrible. Where is our humanity?

New episode idea, born from real life. Instead of giving us less work/better benefits, our district wellness committee is “rewarding” us on Valentine’s Day with a “love yourself” -themed salad bar. Now, a taco bar says wellness to me But a salad bar? Gtfo.

REPOST if you support our federal workforce and know how dedicated they are to their jobs. Show them you appreciate them!

I agree. We have large portable HEPA air cleaners they bought during the height of Covid. Most teachers don’t use them but I snagged two and keep both running all day, plus I open a window, even in winter.

I work in a school in the US where many of our families have backyard chickens. I don’t think they have any idea the level of potential risk they may be facing. If it goes HTH, our school could end up being a superspreader situation.

Listen to @oniblackstock.bsky.social. Your silence will not protect you. Stand up. Find others to stand up with. There is safety in numbers.
Under fascism, no one is safe.

Universities stayed quiet as the admin targeted DEI & foreign aid, censored research, etc.

Now, they face devastating cuts to indirect cost rates, threatening research & operations.

Silence won’t protect institutions. It won’t protect people; it never does.

My son died 13 yrs ago today. It feels weird the world has just gone on. I’ll go to work, drink coffee, eat lunch, maybe run an errand on the way home. No one but my best friend and my oldest living son will mention it. And that’s how life moves forward, but I’m still sad and I still miss him.

I read something about the new iPhone update automatically installing Starlink? Have you heard anything about that?

Ignore the media headlines reporting that freezing federal spending or shuttering federal agencies “raise questions” or “push boundaries.” It’s an anticonstitutional lawbreaking spree.
Breaking the Law
Just weeks in, the Trump administration has violated rules, laws, and the Constitution.

I suggest following @indivisible.org guidance on how to protect Democracy this week rather than the viral State Capitols 50 idea with unknown organizers.

I sure hope the groundhog didn’t see 4 (or more) years of this BS. I think it is going to be up to us, the citizens, to make sure spring comes.

It's surreal doing all the "normal" things--watching my kid's soccer game, folding laundry, grocery shopping--in the middle of a kleptocratic coup.

How do you even do that? Should my mom be calling her investment guy tonight?

Why haven’t they been arrested? Do we not have any laws anymore? Even if the president wants this, aren’t there other levels of government that can respond?

So many of my friends feel the same way. We still go to work, take care of our families, etc., but there’s this immense cloud of anger, fear and uncertainty that surrounds us now. It’s crazy.

When he “won” the election, I promised myself I would protect my peace better than I did last time. But the speed with which they are unraveling our democracy while Democrats and law enforcement stand and watch is more than I can handle. My stomach hurts all of the time and my stress level is 10/10.

It is needless if you are framing it the way an actual sane leader would behave. But framing it with the understanding that all of this is to intentionally crash the US into itself and sell it off for parts, makes total sense. It’s surreal to watch it unfold.
