I've got a new book out, The Red Labyrinth. It's a dark little novella about a giant underground labyrinth and a woman who starts a revolution inside it. Also, there are monks. Most of them are mad.

It's good for your friends. It's good for your enemies. It's good for completely random strangers.

No Substance #254: I Gave You Eyes and You Looked Towards Darkness by Irene Solà
Somewhere in the Catalan Mountains there is an old, run down farmhouse called Mas Clavell, and inside it is an old woman who is dying slowly, much too slowly for the ghost who watches over her, Margar...

Watched Longlegs last night. I just can't take a film seriously when people start saying Hail Satan. It's the second film I've watched by Osgood Perkins and it's the second one about Satan. Hard to imagine I'll bother with a third.

Pandemonium Waltz in the mail today. They look fabulous. 17 stories, cover and inside cover art by Derek, and at the back I get grilled by Kelly Link. A beautiful job from Steve Berman and Lethe Press. A million thanks to Steve, Kelly and Derek. Up for presale now but will drop on February 15th.

King: boy those Epstein emails
King: it's really sobering to see how money and power allowed sex predators to operate
Neil Gaiman: hello everyone
Gaiman: i'm back
Barker: oh boy

So weird to watch people talk about the Epstein files and promote a film about Michael Jackson at the same time.

This week's No Substance is about Len Deighton's Winter. It's a historical novel about the rise of Hitler and I found it mirrors a lot of what is happening in the US, and the things that people have said (and still say) about Trump. It's a book with an uncomfortable echo.
No Substance #253: Winter by Len Deighton
I found myself reading Len Deighton’s Winter almost by accident.

I am reading Terry Dowling’s Wormwood. It’s going to be republished by PS, but I have this little hardcover from Aphelion, an Australian publisher that no longer exists, and decided I should read it. Bought it 30 odd years ago for $16.95 according to the sticker. Those were the days.

Yes, I'd like to buy your book. No, I don't want to buy it with a movie poster cover, I'm not a monster, thank you.

So sorry to hear of the death of comic book artist Sal Buscema. He lived in Port Jefferson (as did I), and once, as a teen, I saw him on the LIRR with a big portfolio, and I imagined it was full of amazing Spider-Man art. I was too shy to introduce myself!

Ah well. He shall be missed.
