A long time ago in this same galaxy, we asked ourselves "where does azole antifungal resistance in fungi come from?"

So we set about sampling Aspergillus fumigatus to build a collection of 1000+ samples spanning a century from 34 countries.

New publication🚨Long term collaborations pay off!

I met Jean-Paul 8 years ago in France 🇫🇷 where he told me he doubted that A. fumigatus cell wall did not contain any B1,6-glucan🤷 (random conversation)

Now we have shown it! ssNMR to the rescue👌

Kre6-dependent β-1,6-glucan biosynthesis only occurs in the conidium of Aspergillus fumigatus

Does your lab perform killing assays?
TL;DR: we’ve identified a problem that can bias the outcome of killing assays, making antagonism look stronger than it really is.
Adding a simple extra step can mitigate this bias!

Type VI secretion system activity at lethal antibiotic concentrations leads to overestimation of weapon potency

A long long longgg time ago this was just a table and some data 🤭

But turned it into what I think is a great resource!
A little holiday news:

Evolution of antifungal resistance in the environment www.nature.com/articles/s41...

This started out as a little thought way back in early 2024 between @normanvanrhijn.bsky.social and I, and turned into a full on review! We hope it proves useful to the community.
Evolution of antifungal resistance in the environment - Nature Microbiology
This Review discusses the evolution, emergence and expansion of environmental fungicide and antifungal drug resistance.
