A long time ago in this same galaxy, we asked ourselves "where does azole antifungal resistance in fungi come from?"

So we set about sampling Aspergillus fumigatus to build a collection of 1000+ samples spanning a century from 34 countries.

On this day that supports inclusive futures for women and girls in science, let's not forget all the women that were sidelined, ignored, or forced out of science because they:
- had children
- prioritised family/caring
- did science differently
- questioned boundaries & norms
- fought the patriarchy

Happy #WomenInSTEM day!

I reflect on another year where I've gotten to work with some amazing women in science. Not only that, but I realise what a supportive community of women we have in the mycology field as well - thank you. We root for each other both professionally and personally!

The open letter from UKRI last night was basically a word soup with no new information or clarity on the situation, and even more concerningly, no sincere apology for how it’s been handled and communicated to the U.K. academic community.

Agreed. Those of us who submitted in autumn 2025, spending countless hours on proposals, deserve better.
Would have been good to have added an apology for the lack of comms so far this year, particularly for those that submitted grants to UKRI applicant-led funding streams in Sept 2025, as these are highly unlikely to be funded (www.researchprofessionalnews.com/rr-news-uk-r...)
