I'm going to shut this account down shortly. I'm already on Facebook, X, & Insta and those are more than I can keep up with.

With "Godzilla: The First 70 Years" going on sale today, I’ve written a piece about the considerable behind-the-scenes legwork that went into its creation, which I believe shows why this isn't your typical book on the Godzilla series.

The ramifications of US ICE raids will ripple far beyond America. As an expat, I used to point to the US as the gold standard for acceptance and tolerance. That ideal has been thrown out the window as the country de-evolves into authoritarianism.

I see the restored version of "The Snow Woman" I subtitled last year is out and already (temporarily) out of stock. I don't believe I'm credited on the disc, but hey, my work is listed in the ad as "Newly improved English subtitle translation." ;-)

The Snow Woman
Two woodcutters head into the mountains to fell an ancient tree. Caught in a snowstorm, they spend the night in a mountain lodge, where a female spirit appears.

Subtitle work exploded when I got back to Japan, but I finally got up Phase 1 of our journey through California.

Today was one of those days when I went into a studio to polish off a set of complex film subtitles and was impressed by how everyone on the team worked with focus and without ego, despite the pressure and long hours. It's one of the reasons I've been able to live in Japan for over three decades.

In the "old days," I'd have visited the set for Fango and done something in-depth. Today, tidbits lifted from the web are good enough for so-called articles. I subbed both films, which I'd rather do anyway. Just find it odd how much reporting has de-evolved.

Miyako and I came back from California safe and sound. Had an incredible time! I did a quick open-to-the-public post on Patreon to announce our return to Japan.

I wrote a report (with photos) about the "Owakare no Kai" held this week for manga legend Kazuo Umezu, which Miyako and I were invited to attend.

Amazon is having one of their who-knows-why-they're-doing-this-now sales, and my book, "Behind The Kaiju Curtain," is discounted to $27.

You know what I find funny? When I covered J-horror 20+ years ago, the Japanese cinefile intelligentsia pooh-poohed the genre. Today, they embrace it.

Today (May 23) marks the 40th anniversary of the staff/cast screening of George A. Romero's "Day of the Dead" in NYC in 1985. I wrote a Patreon post about attending that fab night—my first time meeting George—and the two Japanese Blu-rays of the film I worked on.

Updated my Pa/tre/on with a photo-heavy telling of the recent GMK screening at Sagami Women's University. I don't think I've seen my GMK set photos shown this large before!

It's nice to hang out with a guy my age who, not only has the same taste in movies, but knows how to discuss the merits of "The Manster" intelligently.

Excited to dig into “Behind the Kaiju Curtain” by Norman England detailing his time on sets of of Gamera 3, Godzilla 2000, Megaguirus, & GMK.

Here’s a brief interview with England about the book with some nice photos (which sadly do not appear in the book).

My next book’s still a few months off from release, but I’ve shared a peek at the work-in-progress cover on Patreon. The book is an in-depth journal covering my time on the set of the "Resident Evil 2" TV commercial directed by George Romero and starring Brad Renfro.

Been getting to my backlog of unscanned 35mm photos taken in Japan in the 1990s. You know, a time when Japan wasn't overrun with tourists.

I'll be making a new book announcement soon. This update to my Patreon account is the lead-up to it. In this update, I get into the history of my "Dawn of the Dead" site: The Zombie Farm, the Internet's second DAWN website (Chris Stavrakis beat me to it!).

Finally got a somewhat meandering entry up on Patreon. This time, I journey back to early computing, STARFLIGHT II, Back to the Future on VHS, Bob Dylan, and a recent temple gathering for a late Showa-era Toho art staffer.

My next Patreon update needs another day. As you can see from the image, it got a bit unwieldy since it pulls together a lot of disconnected subjects.

Three months into the year and I've subtitled 12 films and a couple of TV pieces, a new record for me. In fact, two were due today, with another out the door on Monday. So, I'm a bit behind on my Patreon; working on a new entry that will be up in a few days. Please cut this old dude some slack!
