Subtitle work exploded when I got back to Japan, but I finally got up Phase 1 of our journey through California.

I wrote a report (with photos) about the "Owakare no Kai" held this week for manga legend Kazuo Umezu, which Miyako and I were invited to attend.

Amazon is having one of their who-knows-why-they're-doing-this-now sales, and my book, "Behind The Kaiju Curtain," is discounted to $27.

Updated my Pa/tre/on with a photo-heavy telling of the recent GMK screening at Sagami Women's University. I don't think I've seen my GMK set photos shown this large before!

I went to the "Godzilla The Art" exhibition at Roppongi Hills and organized my photos into a post on Patreon. The post is open to the public, so feel free to check it out—and if you’re so inclined, consider signing up for my Patreon!

It's nice to hang out with a guy my age who, not only has the same taste in movies, but knows how to discuss the merits of "The Manster" intelligently.

My next book’s still a few months off from release, but I’ve shared a peek at the work-in-progress cover on Patreon. The book is an in-depth journal covering my time on the set of the "Resident Evil 2" TV commercial directed by George Romero and starring Brad Renfro.

Been getting to my backlog of unscanned 35mm photos taken in Japan in the 1990s. You know, a time when Japan wasn't overrun with tourists.

Finally got a somewhat meandering entry up on Patreon. This time, I journey back to early computing, STARFLIGHT II, Back to the Future on VHS, Bob Dylan, and a recent temple gathering for a late Showa-era Toho art staffer.

My next Patreon update needs another day. As you can see from the image, it got a bit unwieldy since it pulls together a lot of disconnected subjects.

So, for the first time in about 50 years, I rewatched "Mars Needs Women," starring Tommy Kirk, Yvonne Craig, and a loudspeaker.

Finished Part 3 of my "Happy Birthday Gamera 3!" retrospective! This Pat-re-on entry covers the grand opening of the Gamera Exhibition at Kyoto Station in 1999, along with the exhibition itself. Tons of never-before-seen photos! Link in comments.
Thanks for supporting my writing and reporting!

Part 2 of 3 of my 'Happy Birthday Gamera 3' essays at my Patreon account. This one details the first public screening of Gamera 3 at an event held inside Kyoto Station, along with my initial thoughts on the film. As always, exclusive photos are included.

Tonight, I supervised an interview with prolific writer Toshiki Inoue about the art of scriptwriting and his work on Kamen Rider for an upcoming Media Blasters release. As expected, he was insightful and revealing. I can't wait for this one to be released!

Went with a group of friends to see "Gamera 3" on opening night in Osaka on 3/6/1999. 26 years later, and still no kaiju film has surpassed it. And dig that funky goods counter!

Sorry it took a while - I've been in subtitle hell since getting back from Atlanta - but here's my Patreon update with a report & photos covering my time at the Days of the Dead show with Takako Fuji from "The Grudge" series (Miyako too!).

It's getting near time to rewatch that by which all TV movies are judged.

After a fantastic time at the Days of the Dead show in Atlanta, I'm back in Japan. Everyone there was super kind to Takako, Miyako & me. Of all our photos, I love this one of Takako after taking a shot with the Terrifier cast best. You can see how truly happy she and everyone is!

Hate all the time it takes to set up a new phone, but these pro max ones take better photos than my iPhone 8. For the price, one would hope so.

This kinda makes me happy & I hope to see more of it: I was in the video section of Yodobashi Camera and saw that the Blu-rays of "Sand Land" and "Spy x Family: Code White" contain my subtitles. I wish more domestic releases came with English subs. Or maybe this is an anime thing?

Thinking about it, my Patreon piece about "Aliens" on opening night at the RKO Twin 39 years ago would be like writing a piece in 1986 about seeing "Song of the South" on opening night in 1946. (Photo found on web; dig the competing catchphrases. The one on the left eventually won out!)
