I made a map of 3.4 million Bluesky users - see if you can find yourself!

I've seen some similar projects, but IMO this seems to better capture some of the fine-grained detail

in general

1. carrot > stick. offer a better reality.

2. do not blame people for not making the choices you did with your priorities and freedoms.

this goes for a lot, including:

- tech + vendor choice
- sponsorship + funding
You know how to get people to leave platforms run by evil people?

Yes, that's right, by offering better alternatives and being super friendly and welcoming and actively working on recruiting people and evangelizing for the better platforms and most importantly by not being gatekeeping misers.

Since diving further into ATProto and its ecosystem, then interoperability piece increasingly becomes the most exciting aspect.

I suppose it’s kind of the whole thing but still, it opens up so many opportunities!

Lots of ideas I have to build on top of existing lexicons.

My hunch is that it's because the topic is about the graphic video of someone getting killed on camera, so there's probably some deeper T&S justification for not putting it on trending

Happy New Year, friends! I have some ~personal news~, which is that the Bluesky team is generously giving me some contract work (which could possibly turn into a job) welcoming more indie media and local govt to Bsky and supporting those already here.

Excited to take my amateur Bsky boosterism pro!

Time for my big year end blogpost about the Atmosphere.

From the personal computing perspective, the cloud has been a disaster — but we shouldn't run away from it.

We can solve a lot of problems by connecting our clouds, turning it into atmospheric computing.
Atmospheric Computing
Cloud computing has been extremely successful, but it lost the values that drove personal computing. We can solve this by evolving forward.

The goal here is to make Heron an Atproto app, not a bluesky app. I hope to build first class support for other custom lexicons and data to the degree the creators of said lexicons let me. Atproto has a rich and vibrant ecosystem, and I enjoy wearing designer, PM and engineering hats.
Oh don't worry that free space is gonna get put to good use soon! Think transient data in a chyron. Stories, live podcasts, scrobbles to @teal.fm or @rocksky.app and so on. It collapses on scroll too!

As an aside, I would very much love for HAL to revisit a metroidvania kirby someday. It might be the nostalgia speaking but Amazing Mirror was the most fun I've had out of any kirby game mainly because of the nonlinear gameplay and the big open map

I have watched this playthrough of kirby and the amazing mirror so many times. The perfect combination of the game being my first video game as a child, funny editing and interactions between the kirby council somehow tickles my brain into rewatching it over and over again
