For Spanish speakers, my Substack post, STEM Follows the Script Written by the Humanities, has been translated and syndicated! humanidades.substack.com/p/stem-sigue...
STEM sigue el Guión Escrito por las Humanidades
Si la civilización y la cultura fueran una obra de teatro, STEM serían los actores en el escenario, mientras que las humanidades serían los guionistas entre bastidores

Oh Vivek Ramaswamy, look what you made me write. It’s not Jocks vs Nerds. It’s the guy who who is both that we should aspire to! noahwrites.substack.com/p/high-achie...

Don't know what's going on at the gym right now, but so far I've seen 1 guy wearing a trojan condom shirt and 2 wearing pornhub shirts.

Recreated an ancient Greek dinner. 🍽️

Lamb roast marinaded in milk, honey, and oregano, then roasted with a salt, pepper, garlic, oregano and rosemary. Served with a wine, honey, and date sauce.

Bread, olive oil and herb dip, garlic cheese, olives, pomegranates, grapes, and dates.

End of Christmas day: food coma in the living room under a blanket at my parents' sipping some kind of German herbal liqueur (stocking stuffer) while reading Pride and Prejudice.

Something Classic is in the air. We just got swole Ralph Fiennes as Odysseus and now this.

The people yearn for the romanticism of ancient stories.
Christopher Nolan’s next film is an adaption of ‘THE ODYSSEY’

• Described as a mythic action epic that follows the tale of Odysseus & his 10-year journey home after the Trojan War

• Starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Matt Damon, Lupita Nyong’o and Robert Pattinson

Never had plum pudding before. Saw a prepackaged one in the store and thought "oh what the hell."

This really is good stuff.

Trump, Scholtz, Trudeau, Russian invasion, rich NIMBY property owners, movie sequalitus, no new music genres, over production of academics...

This has not been a good 15 years for the reputation of the political, academic, and cultural elite.

if this is true, the continued takeoff of Bluesky would be a matter of world-historical significance: the contrived decline in referral traffic to news sites from social media platforms is a load-bearing aspect of our currently screwed up information ecosystem
Also, holy shit, Bluesky sends real traffic. Will update this tomorrow with firm numbers but journalism is going to move here for sure. Twitter is a drop in the bucket. It's over, but we are so back, and so on and so forth

RETVRN to a fragmented internet like the 00s golden age.
The deep goal of bluesky is to decentralize the social internet so that every individual controls their experience of it rather than having it be controlled by 5 random billionaires. Everyone thinks they signed up for a demuskified twitter...we actually signed an exciting and bizarre experiment.

Note to self: a possible safeguard for democracy is mandatory military training. Regular citizens and legislatures with training as soldiers can fight back against attempted coups better.
Earlier in South Korea this soldier got absolutely manhandled in this iconic one hand reversal, he was too stunned to speak.

Increasingly think one of the healthiest states of mind to adopt is that no matter how smart and introspective you are, you can't predict the future. It's far too complex. Too pessimistic about your own future? Stop it. You really can't predict shit. Just try stuff.

Feelings about what you feel is right can be your guiding star, but you need to think in terms of what's pragmatic on the journey there.
There have been a lot of times where I feel like we need to have honest discussions on the left about what has worked and what hasn’t, share observations without judgement, but it feels like there isn’t much space for it. I think it’s holding us back.

I wonder how and where we can accomplish that.

We're returning to something closer to social media of the 00s when it was a highly fragmented set of forums devoted to niche subjects.

It was honestly better that way. It worked, extremism and political polarization weren't so bad, and the internet felt like a better place.
it’s not “retreating into a bubble” to want to see posts by people you like and want them to see yours
