Hosted a small judge class at an LGS today (which went well) and then ended up being the sixth person for Standard. Haven't played the format since 2019. It was fun! I opened a Roaming Throne in the promo pack 🤑

Really interesting to see examples of convergent design between my old fan-made Avatar Magic set circa 2017-2020 and the WoTC-made one.

Look, the screenshot cards mostly look pretty crappy. But this one—what a slam-dunk reprint for this set. I was staring at this for multiple minutes, thinking, "no way is this an existing Magic card."

I take issue with titling a card depicting Monk Gyatso's skeleton as "Tolls of War". As Aang pointed out in Book 3 Episode 2, the air nomads didn't have a military. The Fire Nation invaded and committed genocide.

I get the impression that many Magic players think that the policy documents that Magic judges follow are...privileged information? No, they're available for anyone to read—and in fact it's expected that players playing at a Competitive level be familiar with the Magic Tournament Rules.

510.1c and 510.1d used to talk about how how damage had to be assigned according to the order of blocking creatures and what counts as "lethal damage"

Lost a game of Commander last night to a Jaxis player who cast Molten Primordial and made a copy of it with Jaxis, stealing my Arcades & The Pride of Hull Clade, another player's Aurelia the Warleader & Tymna and dealt over 50 damage to me. It was awesome.

Want to build more enjoyable, interesting decks? Come up with a fun idea, and look for a cmdr to best facilitate that idea instead of looking at a commander and doing the effortless, obvious thing it wants you to do.
