The true enemies of a free society are apathy, ignorance, and cynicism. These are powerful forces, but they can be countered somewhat effectively with optimism, curiosity, logic, empathy, and healthy dialogues. Human beings who treat each other with respect can easily discuss many things sensibly.

Was very proud of this little essay writing guide for Philosophy when I put it together 7 years ago in those innocent pre-COVID days when an animated power point video was cutting edge technology. Still getting viewed from time to time.

In a long life, I have known many people and often gravitated towards having discussions with the brightest minds that I encountered. This has led me to meeting many gifted and brilliant human beings, but some have a purpose for their intellect, and some do not see any purpose for it, which is odd.

Seeing a lot of cynics arguing that nothing should be done about eight Senators voting against the will of the American people, because these cynics believe all of the Senators secretly wanted those eight Senators to vote that way. Their cynical argument is irrelevant to holding people accountable.

I will not support the Republican bill that’s on the Senate floor because it fails to do anything of substance to fix America’s healthcare crisis.

The silver lining to the surrender by 8 Dems is that the House GOP must return to vote on it. Johnson must swear in Grijalva, and the discharge petition on the Epstein files must force a full floor vote. Stay tuned.

Personally, I am not in favor of this Trumpcare idea that Mike from Louisiana has been writing about in his little notebooks. Republicans dislike healthcare, medicine, and reality, so there is zero chance that Trumpcare is going to make anyone healthier, but it really might kill a lot of people.

Codifying the Constitution’s Emoluments Clauses
To prevent corruption, the Constitution prohibits the president and other officials from receiving untoward benefits. Congress, however, must take action to enable enforcement.

That said I am lifting up the Senators who I KNOW fought, like my own @vanhollen.senate.gov. We need to press those Senators to demand a different kind of leadership internally. There’s still a lot more work ahead and we need the leadership to be chastened.
I have come to believe this as well. The list is too strange. I don’t think a majority wanted to cave, but many more than the 8.
I think that these 8 Senators are falling on the sword for Schumer and other Senators who wanted the shutdown to end. This allows the majority of Senators to save face; and only retiring or not up for reelection Senators take the heat.
It’s a ruse.
