Newsberg's first statewide story is live! This co-published story with @opb.org reviews a study that analyzed 70 years of climate data in the Willamette Valley and found a trend showing the area may not be perfect for pinot in the coming decade.

Working on my first enterprise story since 2013, and WHOOOO DOGGIE I forgot about the rush of wrapping a final edit before sending to an editor. It's been months of research and field reporting, photos, etc. to get this pulled together, and I'm so excited for it to hit newsstands soon.

OPB’s class of 2025 project started because of a goal set by the governor that by 2025, 100% of Oregon students would graduate high school. What happened?
A 2025 check in with Oregon’s ambitious education goal, 40-40-20
An October report shows progress has been made, but Oregon is still far from its 40-40-20 goal in education — 40% of young Oregonians should have a 4-year degree, 40% should have a 2-year degree or other credential, and the remaining 20% would have at least a high school diploma or GED.

This became incredibly important for me/Newsberg as I realized I was a server crash or missed bill away from all this hard work telling local stories and recording the community’s history disappearing overnight. We teamed up with Portico as a way to address that.

Something they don’t tell you about when you become a young parent: young parent hours when you’re going out for dinner.

Our sweet spot is about 5 p.m. and we have a timer until 6:30 at the latest before a melt down.

Oh no. Zombie sites are resurging. I haven't seen much since the Daily Tidings story by @opb.org but it sounds like zombie sites are alive and well, according to @niemanlab.org.

Stay vigilant out there, readers.

Grocery prices in #Portland were chaotic in September. My latest Price Tracker data shows one store hiking prices by 35% while another dropped theirs by 23%.

I added Costco to the mix this month, pitting it against reigning budget champ WinCo. Who won? The answer is more complicated than you think.

I think I like the idea of a business whiteboard more than actually having a whiteboard.

I've had one in my office for years, and I can't say I've ever had a tangible reason to use one. But boy do I want to chart some stuff on there, just for funsies.

The only way to combat this is to not use it or interact with the platforms that are pushing it. We're headed toward the dead internet theory at a rapid pace.

So many recipes call for ingredients measured in weight and I’ve put off buying a food scale for years because WHY spend all that money?

Y’all, apparently food scales are like $10 and this is the best loaf of gf bread I’ve ever made. Buy a dang food scale.
