A delightful Turkish saying translated into Ladino in Vienna’s Ladino paper El Koreo de Viena 1871.

“El azno se fue ala Kâbe, azno se fue i azno torno”

The ass went to the Kaaba (on hajj) he went an ass and returned an ass.

Hadnt heard it in either language!

Runner up, student category. Nesi Altaras recounts summers spent on the island of Buyukada, close to Istanbul, and the "traditional but extremely practical" feeling of being Sephardic in Turkey.

Feeling similarly and finding that many many people are failing the test.
Watching the news from Syria this week, hopes and anxieties that had been kept frozen for a decade are thawing. I feel like I'm time-traveling, feeling things I had not felt since 2015. Now more than ever, Syria is the true test of people's politics.

I don't know if this is getting attention because ((waves arms)), but Michigan's Regents will consider defunding DEI tomorrow. Unlike the situation in Florida or Texas, this is under a board that is 6-2 Democrats.

Are people still calling posts on here “skeets”?

I really hope that caught on
November 15, 2024 at 10:37 PM
When i search the word “ottoman” in bluesky, most of the posts that come up are photos of cats and dogs sitting on ottomans.

The empire has really disintegrated i guess
