While I'm certain to put moments of tragedy into things I write in the future, I refuse to be one of those authors that never lets a protagonist have anything good in their life.

Hell, I might write a book where keeping a hero's loving, obviously-supposed-to-die mother alive is the whole plot.
Flashing back to when I found out that [a character I liked] died in the latest installment of [a book franchise] because my wife read the latest book first... and she woke me up in the middle of the night, sobbing.

I held and comforted her while thinking, "Fuck you, [author]!" the whole time.

I'd drag every tech CEO kicking and screaming into a humanities course, and give them "talking to people like they're people because, incidentally, they ARE people" classes.

Drone strikes would be a useful plan B, though.
Forget strangling baby Hitler when I get a Time Machine I’m drone striking an early PayPal board meeting

Oh so Warner Bros. is getting EAed.

Wonderful.
You don't need to be told this, but Netflix is going to kill Warner Bros.

The deal saddles Warner with billions of dollars in debt.

Netflix is already, before the deal even closes, planning to gut it for billions of dollars, which means thousands of layoffs.

Netflix is buying WB. Isn't that interesting?

On a completely unrelated note: I need someone to hire me for some long-term writing work so I can afford a proper, massive home server.

Breaking: after a year or so into the AI grift, Meta has finally given up on their "VR is the future of human interaction" grift
Meta is reportedly considering significant cuts to its Reality Labs metaverse division, after not seeing the "industry-wide competition over the technology" it had expected www.gamesindustry.biz/report-meta-...

They did it wrong.

That aside, Violent Night was gorgeously-shot, had a pretty decent soundtrack, good action and my wife loved the blood effects (is a phrase I never thought I'd type).

The story is solid, with writing that ranges from serviceable to fantastic, with great performances all around.
FINALLY getting around to watching Violent Night. And it occurs to me that if they didn't put Weird Al's The Night Santa Went Crazy anywhere in the movie, then they did it wrong.

I made the mistake of opening LinkedIn. It boggles my mind how many supposed "business experts" are still trying to shill AI, like anyone who's paying attention can't see the writing on the wall.

And worse, I'll need to open it again later to continue the job search.

There are a few versions of this story: some great leader or other wants to introduce potatoes as a crop, but the peasants won't have it. So the leader plants a potato field, says no one else is allowed to have potatoes, and leaves it unguarded.

The potatoes are stolen; everyone makes fries. 1/2
YouTube is astroturfing everyone's 2025 recap analysis to make it look like the thing they're most interested in is genAI.

It's like Duet Night Abyss but... I kid, I kid.

Warframe is my comfort addiction. It's the one I go back to and spend just a bit too much money on every few months. Well, I haven't spent anything lately because I'm still looking for a new long-term job (Writer for hire!), but I know I'll be back.

A free idea for the visual artists out there. A sort of tabby gray ranger cat (as opposed to cate-person) named Drizzt Do'Purrrden.

Enjoy.

Does anyone know if there are good open source Japanese fonts? There are enough useful open source English typefaces and fonts that I'll basically never worry about fonts again, and it'd be good if Japanese devs could benefit in the same way.

I really wish people would stop using slop to just mean 'thing I don't like' or 'stuff that is part of a trend'.

Neither of those are inherently worthy of being called slop. You really gotta earn that title by being low-quality, low effort products of greed and laziness.

Do you know how many artists, devs, writers, and musicians would be able to work on whatever they wanted until the end of time?

Neither do I. It sort of depends on *how* rich I got.

It's like a professor forcing a student to read all their books... then getting a half-assed, Red-Bull-fueled, 3AM paper based on everything the student kind of remembers in response, and being all like, "Oh God this potential intelligence has a vague recollection of things I wrote. I am Unsettled."
"I am *unsettled* that ChatGPT, fed on the plethora of articles I and others have written on the subject as well as my own chat history has reproduced a rough sketch of our arguments back to me, this is *chilling*!"

This guy has massive influence on tech policy. Wonderful.

And every fucking time CEO asks, "What's the secret to Costco's success?" and you tell them, "They provide a good product, treat their employees well, and don't try to shaft their customers." they get upset and are all like, "No, really, what's the real trick?"
Every other big business is busy cramming an LLM into everything and meanwhile Costco is the only one that seems to understand that profit = revenue - expenses.

Yeah, this video is one of the things that made me decide y'all ain't gonna be seeing much output from me until my book is done. Or at least until I've written and edited enough of it that people might want to follow along while I write it.

Attention BEACN Mic and Studio users! The Beacn utility is the project we've been waiting for! It's still a little bit in the works, but is ostensibly usable (at your own risk).

It doesn't seem to support the BEACN Mix/Mix Create, but the really important stuff works.
