I've put aside some time for writing tomorrow. It's time to translate my notes over the last few months into word count.

In the zone of swirling thoughts of things to do. None of them concrete. Everything is still dancing around the perimeter just tantalisingly out of reach. Really, though, I need some sleep. Sleep, then action. It's not time yet and that's ok.

I ticked a longstanding item off my to do list today. Celebrating the win of achieving a simple task with a 3 month old baby and a 2 year old. Go me.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 534:
In a good story, everything contributes. Every description, every piece of information, every gesture, every detail is linked somehow to some part of the whole. If you come across something in your work that isn't, then bin it. Useless ballast weighs you down.

Finished watching the documentary, Jack The Ripper: Written in Blood on the weekend. It was eye-opening to be shown it from the perspective of the journalists from The Star newspaper. Now, to see from the perspective of the women.

Went for my first solo walk in a while. Blue skies and windy with Royksopp as a soundtrack. Not too shabby.

My 1st book on writing, The Alchemy, has been a kindle bestseller for 16 months now. (I KNOW it’s Amazon & lots of bad stuff, but it’s still a significant point of data.) A small indie publisher, no big publicity budget & not reviewed anywhere - there’s even a tiny number of ratings on Amazon 💙📚

Set myself the challenge of reading #TheStand by @stephenking.bsky.social before my little girl is born. I hit 35 weeks tomorrow, my son was born at 34 weeks. Can I do it??

We are opening submissions on the theme of GRIEF tomorrow! We are looking for poems and short CNF about grief. By this we mean not only the grief for a person/ for people, but also grief for animals, grief for a place, a home, a time, an idea, our health, the world, 🧵

Today's writing task is structural changes, reordering progressive complications to maintain momentum. A little too much of how I would deal with things has crept in (observation and analysis), rather than an active protagonist.

Just what we were talking about!
I’ve heard you’re deep in burnout when you’re having trouble consuming media, watching new shows, etc. So helpful to think about your creativity as more than grinding out stories, but also receiving art with pleasure.
Unsolicited writing advice, #17171617:
Don't just write. Read books. Watch films. Look at paintings and sculpture. Play games. Go to plays. Listen to music. Think about how these things make you feel.
Making art is a two-way stream. To make art, you have to consume art.
