New study confirms that short wavelength light (UV & blue) attracts the most nocturnal insects & that intensity increases attraction for all colours. Longer wavelength & lower intensity outdoor lights should reduce biodiversity impacts resjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/... #teammoth 🌍

I thought I had a lot of moth records (with >10,000 from this year still to submit) but that’s small fry compared to what’s already been submitted by everyone else. I don’t envy the moth county recorder’s job! Well done Jim…
WOW! We have just passed 3.5 million records, it is certainly a record breaking year, details to come in December as I attempt a New for Norfolk advent calendar and post a species per day 😅... Yes we have had that many!!! #teammoth #norfolkmoths

It's still looking very promising for tonight. The wind should become lighter from the west later in the night. #teammoth

iRecord and other Indicia sites are available again. Thanks to the BRC/UKCEH technical team for resolving the problem.
An unexpected outage for iRecord and other Indicia systems this weekend means that you won't be able to add records to the websites. It is still possible to add records to the iRecord apps, but you won't be able to upload them until this is fixed 😞

Don't put the moth traps into hibernation just yet! The forecast model runs for next Tuesday onwards (especially Weds-Fri) are hinting at something MUCH better than we experienced this week. Early days, but something to keep a close eye on. #teammoth

2/2 Weds - the most likely period for the arrival of African insects. Look out for the likes of Crimson Speckled during the day. Thurs - cooler night however there should be plenty of migrants still on the wing. #teammoth

1/2 Here we go then! Hot conditions in NW Africa today, combined with a SE'ly airstream over the Sahara should pull any dispersing insects out towards the Atlantic and then towards GB and Ireland. Tues - wet and windy, which will hamper moth trapping, especially on the coast... #teammoth

I spent two hours moth trapping in private woodland at Long Melford in Suffolk this evening. A total of 107 moths of seven species. The amazing thing is that 86 of the moths were the Nationally Scarce PLUMED PROMINENT. I've never trapped anything like that number before. #mothsmatter

1/2 The next 4-5 days/nights should be the most productive spell for North African migrants that we've seen so far this year (not difficult, I know!!!). Tuesday and Wednesday in particular look very interesting. [NB, any resemblance to male appendages in the charts is purely coincidental] #teammoth

From Sunday night (2/11) it may turn VERY interesting. Some of the charts for Tuesday - Thursday (4-6/11) in particular are mouth-watering, with the airstream tracking deep into Africa.
A long way off and subject to change of course. #teamoth

Well this was a surprise when I had a quick check of the moth trap this morning. I am no expert but don’t think it’s meant to be flying now. I read it may fly have a second generation in Aug/Sept in the south. Is this one of interest to your study @ruthnewby.bsky.social ? #teammoth
