Birds, Moths and Wildlife around Marbury nr Whitchurch Cheshire
A lovely fresh Chestnut joined the December Moths in Marbury last night. Not trapping tonight but hopeful for later this week. Thank you all for the recommendations of the Chris Manley book, loving the photos. Looking forward to using it next year. I already have my list of most wanted! #teammoth

The surprise of this morning's walk was finding a very new born lamb! The birding highlight was a very obliging Kingfisher on the canal. Also Ravens, Kestrel, Fieldfares, Redwings, Mistle Thrush, Mipits, Nuthatch, Siskins, Wigeons, Tufted Ducks, Great White Egret and Pink-footed Geese. #ukbirding

Lovely photograph of it!

I wonder if it is a quick check in saying hello on days when they are busy doing Raven things and don’t stop for long. A kind of quick “I’m ok are you” kind of thing but I may be imaging it!

Today’s daily dose of Raven 😁 Here he is flying in to a call! flying around doing the water droplet call seems to be the new norm. I tried looking up what it means but there doesn’t seem to be a consensus. I don’t know if anyone knows of/is a Raven expert on here who could help? #ukbirding #Ravens

A rare non bird/moth tweet. Apparently It’s National Border Collie day! Bits is a typical Border Collie, mad with such high energy levels, but she is calm in the house & is the sweetest character. She loves everything including her cat brother Cooper!

Isn’t it. He is such a character!

I know it is one of the things that make them so special!

I love my walks round Marbury no matter how cold & drizzly it is! Today as well as the Ravens saw: a Kingfisher, hunting Kestrel, GWEgret, Wigeon, Meadow Pipit, Fieldfares, Redwings, Mistle Thrush, Treecreeper, Buzzards & the only moth gracing the traps at the min are December Moths. #ukbirding

Sorry for the Raven spam but different behaviour today. Chips came down briefly for food & has spent the rest of the time flying above me. I hope you can hear but as he is flying he is doing the water droplet call & clacking his beak. I can’t put into words how privileged I feel #ravens

Chips flying in tumbling! It’s not the greatest video but I hope you can make him out calling and tumbling. Starting to try and read up on them more and if I wasn’t certain before I am now, that Ravens are the best birds!! #Ravens

Lovely bunch of moths and photos. I feel you pain were sorting photos is concerned!

Glad it went well. There was never any doubt as your paintings are amazing and if you can make others be interested in moths too its even better! 🥰

Saw a Kestrel successfully hunt a vole for the 2nd day running on today's walk. Also there continues to be large flocks of Fieldfares & Redwings, both Ravens, Wigeon, Tufted Ducks, Great Crested & Little Grebes, Great White Egret, Mistle Thrushes, Siskins, Meadow Pipits, Pinkies #ukbirding

Inspired by “Mind of the Raven” decided to chronologically document the Ravens behaviour. I 1st tweeted that a Raven came to feed 100 ft away in April 2024. 2 months later 2 came, then their fledglings Now they come within 2 ft, relaxedly grooming, mutual grooming & vocalising #ukbirding

Crazy year!

Was optimistic for some moths in Marbury this morning as saw 2 flying around on the canal on my early walk. It looked bleak until the last few egg trays where there were 3 beautiful fluffy December Moths. A real treat to see some Moths after a week of none! #teammoth

Tonight’s reading. Maybe it will help me understand Chips and Gravy’s behaviour better. I should document their behaviour more systematically too

What a difference a day makes, miserable dank weather for today's walk and no Ravens. Saw a Kestrel hover, dive and catch a vole just as it came light. Also Great White Egret, Wigeon, Siskins, Redwings, Fieldfares, Mistle Thrush, Linnets, Reed Buntings, Buzzards, Sparrowhawk. #ukbirding

500ish Pink-footed Geese in the fields today in Marbury. It has been quieter for them here this year. In previous years there have been flocks of 3000. I always look through them for something interesting, did find one with white above it's beak but think it's still a Pinkie. #ukbirding

I'm going to give it a go Dave. Feels relatively mild and there were a couple of insects flying around on this morning's walk

What a year you've had! Roll on next year. Who knows what will turn up 😀 It will be difficult to beat the Bedstraw though!
November 21, 2025 at 6:21 PM
Ok will do. If they don't shall I put it on irecord?
