Practicing my Raven speak this morning. The best conversation I will have all week🤣 It’s a good job no one is around to see me sat in the rain on wet ground trying to talk Raven by clacking to a Raven. I am not sure I am quite normal 😆 #Ravens

From this morning a beautiful bright move and a stunning December Moth in the trap.

Busy this morning so only managed a shortish walk to feed the Ravens. Fab walk though as both Ravens came. They seemed a bit nervous of something today & only came down to eat doing their bonding in a tree. Also Great White Egret, Kestrel, Siskins, Fieldfares, Redwing, GCGrebes #ukbirding

In the pub last night talking to my fellow bell ringer, aged 86, about how many moths I’d seen this year he was genuinely shocked. He thought there were about ten! I started showing him pictures (as you do) 😆& he was amazed. Particularly by the Peach Blossom. Love spreading the moth love #teammoth

Think this is the Redwings singing
December 7, 2025 at 12:52 PM
Miserable weather this morning I think I am going the have to get used to it! No Ravens, Tawny calling early, 2 Great White Egrets, Goldcrests & Treecreeper with a Tit flock, Wigeon, flock of Fieldfare & Redwings (I think singing), Kestrels, Buzzards, Mistle Thrushes & Mute Swans #ukbirding

Obsessed me. Never! Can you tell who these are yet from the under painting!? 😅

I don’t know whether this helps with sexing. Chips at front, Gravy behind. I know I say it every day but this might be my most amazing interaction yet 😆 !! I sat down with them & they stayed for 20 mins. I am besotted! #ukbirding

Great White Egret calling while flying. It's a lovely call that I hadn't heard until recently
December 5, 2025 at 5:37 PM
Lovely walk. Highlights: hearing the Great White Egret making its chortling call (hadn’t heard it before this week), Fieldfares, Redwings, Mistle Thrush, Siskins, Mipits, Pinkies, Shovelers, Tufted Ducks, Wigeon, Great Spotted Woodpecker & Kestrels, video of calling GWE in comments #ukbirding

Loads more videos of them grooming on my you tube!

Best morn ever with Chips 1st photo, & Gravy 2nd. I was wrong about Chips knocking he/she clacks so still can’t sex them 🙄 Interestingly today Gravy came 1st he/she quite nervous & didn’t come close until Chips came in calling and tumbling then he/she was brave & they groomed. Video in comments.

What a difference to yesterday, what a beautiful morning. Not sure it's going to last!

The Jackdaws coming into roost over the mere as the sun sets now. I am trying to concentrate every day on what I am thankful for and I am so very thankful to be lucky enough to live here!

1 moth saved me last night, a Mottled Umber. It gave me the opportunity to have a good look at it. I was especially impressed by its delicate underwing. Also moths by torchlight on my early walk, one looked like a Chestnut. I wonder if it is a bit obsessive chasing moths on my walks now 🤣 #teammoth

Absolutely miserable weather for this morning's shortened walk, but there is always something to brighten it up. Today it was this Sparrowhawk. I thought I was seeing it's eyes in the dark but it was it's unusual markings! Also surprisingly in this weather one Raven came down. #ukbirding

Another one of my favourites for #Thursjay. A Jackdaw looking in awe at a Raven 😀 Just look at the difference in sizes!

Very foggy start but brightened up late morning. Highlights: both Ravens, Kestrel, Buzzards, friendly Chaffinch, Fieldfares, Redwings, Mistle Thrush, Siskin, Wigeons, Pink-footed Geese and the moth trap still attracting a few moth including this lovely Scare Umber this morning.

So it turns out (reading “Mind of a Raven”) that I am wrong in thinking that Chips ( the most vocal and friendly) is a male. This knocking sound apparently is unique to females. So Chips is a girl! Now I know I will try to do more detailed observations, esp at breeding time #ukbirding

Still trapping. Still a few moths visiting: Mottled Umbers, Winter Moths & December Moths. The December Moths actually lived up to their name last night 😅 & this morn a Winter Moth flying on my walk. Also photo of my garden to give an idea of where I trap. It is at the edge of a village. #teammoth

One of my favourite ever morning walks: Tawny Owl early, 35 Cormorants on the mere being dive bombed by Black-headed Gulls, time sitting with the Ravens & Mute Swan family, Thrushes (Mistle, Fieldfare, Redwings) everywhere, calling GWEgrets, beautiful weather & not a soul about! #ukbirding
December 2, 2025 at 1:34 PM
Close up of a Fieldfare. Should have been better photos but for Chips the Raven! I was creeping up quietly towards the hedgerow, thinking these are going to be great photos, when the Fieldfare and I were made to jump by an impatient Chips coming up behind me croaking for suet! #ukbirding
