It’s a memo from BBC management, which refers to a discussion had at ‘the Nine’ - that is, the 9am editorial meeting. Screencap of memo reads: ------- As discussed in the Nine To ensure clarity and consistency in our reporting, please follow these guidelines when describing the recent events in Venezuela: • "Captured" - Please attribute this to the U.S. description of the operation. Example: "The U.S. said Maduro was captured during the operation." • "Seized" - Acceptable for use in our own reporting where appropriate. • Avoid using "Kidnapped." Thanks for keeping htis in mind as you work on related stories. ------- It de facto bans BBC journalists from stating that the US “kidnapped” Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Instead, they are ordered to use “seized”, which is, at best, a euphemism. That’s even though Donald Trump himself - when told that interim Venezuelan president Delcy Rodriguez said Maduro had been kidnapped - responded that “It’s alright. It’s not a bad term.” Orwellian stuff…
