Basically your only job as a journalist is to tell the truth
This idea that we're all personal Super PACs who must talk like we're part of a paid political broadcast every minute is a significant part of what's wrong with Democratic politics.
This was revealing. Worth reading. The basic demand is that Coates spend less time thinking/writing his true feelings and more time playing political strategist. Klein asks him over and over him to do Dem strategy; he says no, over and over. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/28/o...

It’s so weird that people latched onto a bunch of mostly bullshit justifications for disliking a technology that has immediate obvious negative societal externalities. It’s made it way harder to teach writing but people scream about imaginary lakes evaporating.
The commonly cited AI water usage statistics are based on a methodology where, if your data center buys green energy from a hydroelectric dam (as lots do, including the hyperscalers), then “natural evaporation of the water from the lake behind the dam” is counted as that data center’s water use.

i'm getting really into cognitive decoupling (by which i mean psychologically pathologizing my political opponents on the basis of tendentious interpretation of low-quality opinion surveys)

Columbia is the most craven university in the US right now. Students should go elsewhere as this place will not protect them.
Multiple reports of ICE/DHS agents in Columbia undergraduate dormitories, right now.

two basically indistinguishable left-of-center parties decided (once again) to compete for the same voters against Doug Ford 👍
