one thing i have noticed is a lot of folks do not seem to understand the difference between a presidential election and 435+ legislative elections. i have seen any number of people say that you could subvert the outcome this november by targeting “swing states,” which does not make any sense.

I expected the cuts would be bad but I'm honestly stunned and sickened seeing how many great journalists the Washington Post just lost. People who nailed huge investigations, documented war zones, exposed horrific crimes, dropped all at once for failures they did not cause.

Two more Lancaster farms had confirmations of HPAI yesterday, including a 0.7M layer facility.
An egg layer flock in Lancaster County, PA hit with HPAI this week.

One to keep an eye on: In 2022, when an egg-laying flock in Lancaster around that size had an outbreak, the infection spread to other flocks in Lancaster and Berks, taking out over 4 million birds, mostly layers.

Egg layers hit by HPAI in Weld CO, 1.3M birds.

Two Weld County farms above 1M layers have been hit at least twice since 2.3.4.4b arrived in 2022.

Weld 02 (2022-07) / Weld 06 (2022-12) / Weld 11 (2024-08)

A quiet streak in egg layers seems to be over.

Really appreciate this work from @malar0ne.bsky.social et al, making the case that assortativity of vaccine coverage is vital to understanding (and modeling) measles outbreaks / breakthrough infections
But how much assortativity is present in the states used to compare and test our model?

We use school-level vaccination data to check for evidence of assortativity -- do most schools have the same vaccine coverage, or are they split into more & less vaccinated?

A billionaire known as “Bitcoin Jesus” was under indictment for massive criminal tax fraud and very likely going to prison.

Then, he hired a “Friend of Trump” and the criminal charges disappeared.

How did they do it? Avi Asher-Schapiro and I spent months getting the inside story.

The right move. And an excellent, forceful statement: "We have asked the court to order the immediate return of all seized materials and prevent their use. Anything less would license future newsroom raids and normalize censorship by search warrant.”
