A five-storey tower house built by the Burkes in the 15th c.
The defences were strengthened in the 16th c. with the construction of a bawn and a gatehouse.

Conservation work has recently commenced at Cloyne Round Tower, which dates to the 10th/11th c. It rises to seven floors over basement and is finished with a distinctive battlemented top.
