great profile in the LA Times of the “vato skateboarders” from One Battle After Another, who were actual skaters from El Paso, where the battle of baktan cross (my favorite sequence in the movie) was filmed

El Paso is lowkey one of the coolest cities in the country

Occupying illegal apartments does not exacerbate the housing crisis because... those apartments are illegal! It's terrible for the safety of the people living there. It's why people drown when it floods. But it's not driving the shortage of legal housing.

Secondly, legally renting an apartment, at least in New York requires among other things:
- Proof of identity
- Proof of bank account
- Proof of employment

Folks here illegally are living with family here legally or in illegal residences, like illegal basement apartments

There's ~14 million people living without documents in the US, up by 4m. Not +30m, not 30m total.

New from @francescadnunz.bsky.social: Experts interviewed by the Observer say there's still no concrete evidence the dramatic multi-agency raid on a rented AirBnB had anything to do with preventing gang activity.

Trump's super-power is that he simply refuses to acknowledge political wounds that would instantly kill anyone with a modicum of shame. Which has worked well enough for him that many people have fooled themselves into believing he isn't wounded at all. But he is! He always has been!

I was kind of 50/50 on whether or not Ds should make a deal - blocking SNAP payments isn't just a political tactic... it actively hurts people - just one month of missed $ is enough to plunge 23k NYers into poverty.

But then you see this kind of thinking and you get radicalized all over again.
