Yes, you can wear anything. There is no law about uniforms. Departments make them up. This has always been true, but many counted on tradition or discretion to keep it in check.

Turns out, law enforcement officers don't have nearly as many rules as some people think!
This article is crazy-making. Basically, they can wear anything. There is no uniformity, there is no consistency. Some rando in camo could be a government employee, there is no way of knowing.
