As Keir Starmer purges the left and dances to Nigel Farage’s xenophobic tune, I look at how Labour's mounting failures created an opening for @jeremycorbyn.bsky.social @zarahsultana.bsky.social to found a new left-wing party. Check out my latest for @thenation.com
Labour Has Only Itself to Blame for the UK’s New Left-Wing Party
Starmer’s rightward turn and austerity agenda fracture Labour, as Corbyn and Sultana rally disillusioned voters behind a new left alternative.

This episode was fascinating - so many examples of countries who took big steps to improve the lives of their people.
This is an INCREDIBLE episode. Why do 80% of people in Singapore live in government-built housing? Why is graduate school free in Finland? Why does over 98% of Uruguay run on renewable energy?? Absolutely LOVED this. open.spotify.com/episode/3R5s...

THIS is what I mean when I say over and over again Americans are getting a bad deal. In the wealthiest country in the history of the planet, how is it that 2/3 of the population can't afford to get by?!
A new report finds the bottom 60% of U.S. households—or *two-thirds* of the population—can't afford a “minimal quality of life": housing, health care, and other necessities.

"Indicators like GDP and unemployment tell us the economy is thriving. But they don’t reflect the reality of most Americans."

No, average Americans don't need to pay more than we already do to have better public services and programs like universal health care, paid parental leave, and more ... Mythbusting and more over at @jacobinmag.bsky.social with the inimitable Meagan Day.
Americans think low taxes are a trade-off for a limited welfare state.

But health care costs are just a private tax — and if you include them, we pay the second-highest tax rate in the world. It doesn’t have to be this way.
America’s Problems Are Solvable. Look Beyond Our Borders.
US political discourse is characterized by deep resignation about the high costs and mixed outcomes of our health, housing, education, and childcare systems. But these issues aren’t unfixable — in fac...
