The biggest tech story for 2026 doesn’t appear to be one: the proposed billionaires’ tax in California, which goes after wealth not income. If we are to dig out of the deep hole of inequality led by Big Tech, we need to support bold ideas like a wealth tax. @thenewpress.bsky.social @seiuca.org

Also a reminder on MLK’s birthday—with NYC nurses on strike—King called 1199, health &hospital workers, his “favorite” union and supported strikes in 1959 & 1962 on behalf of the lowest-paid Black and Puerto Rican women hospital workers bc their wages were so low “you couldn’t even call them wages.”

Today would be Dr King’s 97th birthday. A reminder; the holiday should be a day of direct action, not charity. Dr King called out the structures of inequality. When a white woman asked why Black people didn’t just clean up their own neighborhood, he made clear, ”That was the job of sanitation.”

Yes, billionaires are in fact an even bigger problem than you think. They're wrecking the planet and driving up your bills.

Author @chuckcollinswrites.bsky.social makes the case against billionaires in this week's @washingtonmonthly.com podcast:

Should Billionaires Exist?
Author Chuck Collins argues that billionaires are a uniquely destructive force to the economy, democracy, and the planet.

It was such fun to be on @democracynow.org to talk about the myths of the Montgomery bus boycott & emphasize that the courage of Rosa Parks was her ability to take step after step without indication that any of them would matter. We have to stop looking for the 'right' action and just take action.
