This is incredibly offensive to my students and colleagues who understand their role in the Armed Forces the right way. They have always been welcome in polite society because they are the ones who think about how to protect that society of goodwill.
Hegseth: "A few months ago I was at the White House when President Trump announced his liberation day for America's trade policy. It was a landmark day. Well, today is another liberation day. The liberation of America's warriors ... you kill people and break things for a living."

I wrote a 6 part thread abt #ThePaper, then the app closed & lost it.

So, in short, a great new sitcom. Not #TheOffice, not really a mockumentary, but a *good* show.

The downside of streaming is having to wait a year+ for new episodes instead of just a summer, like in appointment television days.

I think you can get to know me, uncomfortably personally, just by knowing that I looked up the luggage dimensions of a carry-on just to see if I could bring home a gorgeous, three-foot radius, gold discoball that I found in a dumpster in NYC (on a trip to celebrate my mom's 60th).

It's not real Baja Blast if it doesn't come with a side of gastric distress and delicious cheese. #NotMyGasStationBeverage #BajaBlastinTacoBellOnly

I finally got up the courage to look at my course evals for the spring semester, and the comments were actually really positive, overall.

More importantly, I've developed enough confidence in what and how I teach that the negative comments could actually help instead of devastate me. Hallelujah!

No new AUMF, no new bombings. This is what we should hold the executive branch to.

Back to the "laboratories of democracy" and I love the reasoning...but

I don't know what the cost will be. I don't believe there is a cost too high for justice, but I do believe there is a cost too high for stability. I am on tenterhooks to see the medium-term effect.
Karen Bass: "It's felt in LA like we're part of a grand experiment. How far will the public tolerate the federal government intervening and seizing power from a governor? I think it's being tried out here."

I just finished directing an institute for primary & secondary teachers on "Representation and Administration" that experientially proved, for me, that 1. reading, talking, and trying together makes a difference,

When I mention that I'm allergic to mosquitoes, people think either I'll die or I'll just itch more.
In reality, I'll get a rash, a huge, swollen boil (30% of the time) and the dire itch will last 1-2 weeks.
A mosquito was in my bedroom last night, and I counted 15 bites when I woke up. Pray for me.

Recognizing the insights of marginalized communities is not going to go away now, no matter the crackdown. Free thinkers will still consider the resonance of race, class, and location. Stati quo that feel threatened by this can use violence against it, but they have no real power there.

The suffering under anarchism, where folks are left to the goodwill & amiability of their neighbors, is intolerable when we are in a situation to do better. And, we have proven that we are in such a situation. In my opinion, then, no one can willingly absent themself from political action.

So, the US is suffering.

I always imagined I'd be here in my old age, but I lived in Portugal for a bit and got a taste of public art, public services, and, unfortunately, a bit of public debt. I loved it and hated it.

My husband and I are a cheap team, if you have any #BrainDrain funds. Hire us!

Why is #SNL incapable of finishing off a sketch? They all just peter out at the end, and it's driving me crazy. Is it a Gen Z thing? I like that they are in a phase of transition to the next gen of humor, but still...

I haven't noticed it in other recent comedy. Just stick the ending!

I slept on Superstore, but I'm a season in and it's delightful, so far.

America Ferrrra grounds everything while maintaining the TV illusion. She isn't a gritty realist; she's an actor. And, when she acts, it shows in the right way.

Thank you Senator Cory Booker. This guy truly cares about the people he represents.
"I don't want a Disney vacation of our history! I don't a whitewashed history, I don't want a homogenized history. Tell me the wretched truth about America, because that speaks to our greatness" -- 20 hours into his speech, Cory Booker is spitting absolute 🔥

one thing i keep thinking about is how there is simply no way to design a constitutional system that can resist authoritarian incursion if participants in that system do not actually care that much

If I think about it too long I get sad that my cat can't paint.

He hangs out at home for so many hours a day w/o company that I wish he had the opposable thumbs to create art while waiting.

Unrelated: I heard that one day you live long enough to become a caricature of yourself. It might be my day.

In case anyone ever wants to know, I look up to Zelensky. Plutarch would have written a tale of his life as an example of political courage, and I will march or strike or join whatever movement that says we should support Ukraine during this prolonged Russian expansion.
