This is my fav fossil of all time
Check out this rock star! A 16cm, fossil insect wing for #FossilFriday 🤩 This is Megatypus, a ~275 million year old “griffenfly” that (assuming a few cms extra for the body), probably had a 35 cm wingspan. It is more closely related to today's dragonflies than any other living insect.

Really excited to say that my lab's paper on color transitions in Mimulus sect. Erythranthe is out! We found that some traits demonstrate evolutionary convergence in phenotype & genotype, while others are divergent, & that - as Bob Vickery found - bees prefer yellow!

globally, there are ~3500 described mosquito species in the Culicidae family and many of these are important vectors of disease but only a small percentage have genomic resources. we are launching a pilot project to generate high quality reference genomes for 100 important mosquito species [1/3]
