The goal of companies like perplexity has always been (through personal data) to instrumentalize as much of your life as possible. When the end goal of technology is to think your thoughts before you have them, and you become enmeshed with that system, the result is abdication of agency.
This is the exact agentic AI privacy disaster that Meredith Whitaker @meredithmeredith.bsky.social described at SXSW:

1/2 Most of the time, the use of over the top words like "terrifying" just makes the author look like a crank, but in this case, it could very well be justified. Memory of what was written was virtually nonexistent and brain connectivity collapsed by 47%. Read the thread.

So if I am getting this right:
Thursday the librarian of Congress was fired.
Friday the copyright office rushed out a draft report suggesting genAI training on copyrighted works shouldn’t be legal.
Saturday the head of the copyright office is fired.

While a Youtuber released a 3 hr video cherry picking information, elevating astro turf tech groups, and claiming the lawsuits are faulty, in reality things are moving in a positive direction for creatives!

The more I think about the Marathon gameplay reveal the more depressed I get. Been dreaming about a Marathon reboot for years but what I had in mind was more like marathon getting the doom 2016 treatment. Maybe with some immersive sim elements added in too.
