Why does 'finding the fun' fail so often as a design strategy?
#gamedesign

New designers are told to prototype and 'find the fun'. But the naive version of this is a garbage tactic that mostly results in poorly thought out prototypes that are never going to converge on gameplay.

It’s the evaporation of low interest rates and money being expensive to borrow again. Everyone in the industry who poured their profits into speculation and infinite growth (so, everyone) was left scrambling now that their ventures actually cost them with rates soaring.
In talking to friends who have been in the industry 2-3 times longer than I have, their best guess is that a lot of massive companies blew money on web3/NFT/metaverse shit that just straight-up vanished when that crashed, and they’re spinning it instead of coming clean
all these layoffs make no fucking sense. Epic is making gangbuster money. I know I’m preaching to the choir but the bloated executive/investor compensation and its infinite growth imperative is killing us all and has to go. This is so fucked up.

My covid avoidance strategy is born out of this kind of data.

It’s highly transmissible, it escapes immunity. Each time you get it there’s a 10-20% chance of getting a post covid complication. It looks like those never go away.

It’s easy to start calculating “years I can catch covid” from there.
“Recovery is extremely rare in the first 2 years, posing a major challenge to healthcare systems.”

Maybe assuming it’s okay for *absolutely everyone* to be infected w/ a new disease that (unpredictably) in a small percent of cases results in as-yet incurable long-term disability wasn’t a great plan

Thank you, AP headline writers, for allowing me the pleasure of momentarily misreading this as a spontaneous demonstration, put on by the Corgis themselves.

So for Android is the BlueSky default app the place to go? Or is there a better alternative one yet?
