I think nearly the entire Horror genre boils down to the idea that it is worthwhile to fight until your very last breath. Even, and maybe especially, when there is no hope.

AND!!! every time he feels that faith slipping away he sees people like his past lover, like alucard, and like mizrak who are so resolute and believe in change so much so he latches onto them because they remind him of what he lost and thats why he goes to drastic measures in order to keep them safe
