it's not that i ever doubted that being a barista was a skilled position, but my year-long effort to try to produce a half-decent latte at home has convinced me that a good barista is easily more skilled than virtually every c-suite executive on the planet

My statement on the funding deal to reopen government, protect federal employees, and vote to protect health care:
"I have long said that to earn my vote, we need to be on a path toward fixing Republicans’ health care mess and to protect the federal workforce. This deal guarantees a vote to extend Affordable Care Act premium tax credits, which Republicans weren’t willing to do. Lawmakers know their constituents expect them to vote for it, and if they don’t, they could very well be replaced at the ballot box by someone who will. This legislation will protect federal workers from baseless firings, reinstate those who have been wrongfully terminated during the shutdown, and ensure federal workers receive back pay, as required by a law I got passed in 2019. That’s a critical step that will help federal employees and all Americans who rely on government services. I’ll keep working towards a long-term government spending plan that includes critical priorities to support Virginians and funding for Virginia community projects."

Ned Lamont denounced a new executive order from President Donald Trump encouraging states and cities to arrest and institutionalize people experiencing homelessness. “President Trump: homelessness is not a crime, not here in Connecticut and not in America,” Lamont said during the press conference. “These folks need help, not handcuffs. These folks need housing, not handcuffs. ... That's why we're standing up to this executive order and standing up for all of our citizens.” Applause filled the room. The next morning, 11 miles away, police woke up 64-year-old Zbigniew “Billy” Cichon from a park bench in downtown New Britain and issued him a $99 ticket for violating a city ordinance that bans sleeping in public spaces, he says. If he didn’t pay, a judge would decide his fate.
