Nigel Farage is once again relying on controversy to generate maximum publicity ahead of his visit to Scotland.
Social media only amplifies remarks like these, while more moderate commentary barely registers at all.

If you want to see how deeply national identity warps people's judgment, look no further than Scottish politics. Dive into the replies on any major story about it—sensible takes are the exception, not the rule. Irrationality reigns supreme.

A lot of people say you can’t trust politicians.

Politics is a cutthroat world where many bend the truth to suit their arguments.

If you treat all politicians like second-hand car salespeople, you’ll probably get on better.

The economic benefits from scrapping two child limit can outweigh the initial costs. Some estimate the wider economic burden of child poverty at £39bn a year – lifting 10 per cent of children out of poverty will help alleviate this.

Stop the War’s article on the Ukraine war contains eight examples of language that mirrors Russian propaganda, according to ChatGPT. The organisation is becoming increasingly bold in promoting these narratives, and Corbyn remains a prominent figure within it.

The Chancellor should have ended the two-child cap before now, but they do deserve credit for finally doing so. While the state of the country’s finances makes this difficult, it remains the right decision.

The Labour immigration policy is terrible, but Zack Polanski's comments are ridiculous. He's playing the outrage card, which travels far more quickly due to social media and independent news sources— the times we live in, and I'm not sure Labour realises it or not.

These new immigration laws are grim. I won't support what Labour are doing here—values come above anything else. I believe Labour will probably change leader in the next few years unless there is a change in the polls. The Labour membership would vote against Starmer if a credible person did stand.

This Labour government is far better than the Tories — the problem is that it’s a really low bar to judge against.

The Conservative government was truly awful.

@chrislhayes.bsky.social and @timmiller.bsky.social discuss how social media algorithms are blurring the lines between left-wing outrage and right-wing extremism: "if you look at stuff like, here's a report on like a horrible thing that happened in Gaza, the algorithm will give you Candace Owens."

The irony is that many on both the left and the right attack the BBC while living in their own echo chambers, blind to their own biases.

All this stems back from the promises made in the manifesto.
Labour didn't need to make the promises they did.
Labour strategy has proved to be poor.

That's the right policy. A big ticket rise is far, far better, for all sorts of political and economic reasons, than lots of little sneaky rises. But Labour has left it so long before accepting reality that the risk is now very severe indeed.

The Charlie Kirk murder highlights that much of the irrational behaviour in politics comes from both the far-right and the far-left.
It stems from emotions and a rigid adherence to ideology rather than evidence and facts.

The whole Peter Mandelson affair raises a larger question - Kier Starmer's and his surrounding team's judgment on political affairs.
September 11, 2025 at 9:38 AM
Starmer's strategy on Immigration makes him look weak. Failure to take on Farage and the false rhetoric will isolate Labour in the next election from other parties on the left.

I feel sorry for Alex Davies-Jones having to defend the position on Palestine Action today on the media round.
It's more evidence Labour need to rethink.
August 11, 2025 at 12:19 PM
Designating Palestine Action a terrorist organisation is a stupid move by the government.
The point also has to be made that protesters deliberately being arrested is also stupid; it does nothing to help.

Net result of this ossification of what should be an economically dynamic part of the UK is an economic and long term intergenerational disaster. And Britain with feeble, second tier infrastructure.

Hopefully, Starmer's meeting with Macron is a turn back to serious politics, rather than some of the very poor policy and comments recently around immigration.
Working with our European allies is more important than ever with given the climate on Russia and China.

I've seen many on the left attack Dan Neddal, but I've yet to see anybody take on his arguments!
It's all been petty insults; this is not a serious debate on how to move forward for the country.
