I write a bit. Too many issues and opinions to stay silent. I also paint a bit, naively.
Certainly revived memories for me

Well before he lost the nation, ousted Opposition leader Peter Dutton was losing his own home seat crowd. Remember the old wisdom that all politics is local! Thanks to @climate200.bsky.social #auspol
Revealed: the secret polling which foretold the fast and furious collapse of Peter Dutton - THE POLITICS
Data obtained exclusively by The Politics shows Dutton’s numbers were crashing in his own seat. It was a far cry from the ‘tight contest’ predicted by the major polls.

Excellent analysis piece, Murray. Jacinta is an interesting character on our political stage. But is she the (RW) Mesiah?

Jacinta comes at a hefty Price - THE POLITICS
What she lacks in experience and ... how to put this gently ... humility, she makes up for with chutzpah enough for a future PM in any party that'll have her.

The LNP's latest non-plan is nothing more than a re-election tactic and a plan to extend the life of coal and gas on behalf of their large fossil fuel donors.

Don't fall for it.

A picture tells a thousand words! Coalition gives the finger to gender gap on nuclear energy, with four blokes fronting today’s big policy announcement. Diversity you ask? One of the four isn’t from Queensland!
Peter Dutton’s nuclear plan: Mad, bad, and extremely dangerous
It might seem weirdly appropriate that Peter Dutton should release his nuclear power policy costings on Friday the 13th. But that would be to downplay the sheer lunacy, rank dishonesty, and clear d…

Takes too long, costs too much, time to put nuclear back in its box.
Our economy & households depend on affordable & reliable energy.
CSIRO has again confirmed that nuclear energy in Aus would likely cost twice as much as renewable energy even accounting for the much longer life-span of reactors👇 www.abc.net.au/news/2024-12...

After heavy criticism, Australia's leading science agency doubles down its findings that the cost of nuclear power for Australia would likely be double that of renewable energy, and it would take at l...

Energy efficiency needs a radical rethink.

Making fossil fuel technologies & processes incrementally more efficient is no longer enough.

It might even perpetuate their use.

In my new article I explore how energy efficiency needs to evolve to remain relevant.

Why energy efficiency needs a radical rethink
Energy efficiency has historically been the most significant contributor to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Over the past few decades…

Don’t know about you, but all of these incredible images of our increasingly known universe make me feel very humble; and more concerned than ever about what we insignificant humans are doing to the remarkable home planet we’ve been blessed with by the best luck since the Big Bang.

What was it Paul Keating said? Oh yes, always back the horse called self interest, because at least you know it will be trying!
This Parliament has not passed bills addressing the homelessness and rental crises, and other cost of living issues.

But the major parties colluded this week on legislation increasing their own public funding, and making it harder for independents to be elected.

Priorities.

The decline of the ABC

Brilliant top rating ABC broadcaster Sarah MacDonald is sacked—by a recent employee with no experience in public broadcasting—but who worked at NOVA, Foxtel, ARN, SmoothFM

What a fine example of how the best of the ABC are being discarded.

Would love to see #COP31 locked in for 2026 hosting by Australia with Pacific nations as an outcome from #COP29 in Azerbaijan. Two years to prepare will allow a high quality and impactful event, as long as Australia doubles down on its #climate targets and ambitions.

I covered the early heat-driven mass coral bleaching events in the late 1990s, for the Sydney Morning Herald, when engaged scientists warned it would get worse and become common. Sadly, they were right!
The Great Barrier Reef has suffered its worst coral loss in 39 years, with much of the damage caused by cyclones and climate change-driven heat stress. Some areas have lost over a third of their coral cover. To protect the health of our reefs, we must urgently phase out all fossil fuels #auspol
