I've been out walking old country cemeteries. Noticing many children having passed the same year. Then this article from years ago crossed my mind.

How quickly
How easily
We forget.

Lessons from a Kansas graveyard: What a 1903 outbreak of diphtheria can teach us today
In a shady corner of St. Mary’s Cemetery, a curious collection of little headstones, all of the same size and age, surround a large hooded monument. Unassuming and unadorned, the large family…

Have been visiting family over the Holidays. Apparently, there was a door decorating competition at one place.

Not sure if the "Out of Order" sign was for real or part of the decorations on this door, but it cracked my up. 😂

The maintenance department for the win!

Dear USPS,

You really suck at efficency and doing your job.

Sincerely,

Keep in mind that this screenshot is not the entire journey of the product. It is still meandering through the system at a couple different USPS distribution centers.

I get a lot more interested in football when a second or third string quarter back is playing. Last night with the Packers and today with the Chiefs. The intensity, focus ,and real drive of both these quarterbacks is impressive. Seizing their opportunity.

"Schwab did not give a reason for the decision to change the county’s top election leadership. But Sherman said Thursday morning that it amounted to a difference on an election policy issue that he did not want to disclose."

Spit balling here, but instead of that $1776 check (clever amount-we see what you did there)...

How about ensuring SNAP benefits are availabe for the troops and look at a pay raise especially for enlisted troops.

Additionally, pay heed, these were stated to be dividend checks.

Looks like that new stats person is about to get fired for properly adjusting the jobs numbers.
Breaking:

The U.S. labor market lost 41,000 jobs over October and November, and the unemployment rate ticked up to 4.6% — the highest since 2021.

Outstanding choice.

We define slop as “digital content of low quality that is produced usually in quantity by means of artificial intelligence.” All that stuff dumped on our screens, captured in just four letters: the English language came through again.

If you are ever in NW Missouri during bird migration season, a must stop place is Loess Bluffs National Wildlife Refuge. They have an event called Eagle Days at the beginning of December every year. Just incredible!

So many bald eagles, geese, duck varieties & swans.

Bait and switch.
FIFA, in the most FIFA-y way possible, told cities that bearing all the World Cup costs while getting no direct revenue (not even sales taxes!) would be fine, because they could sell their own sponsorships — then made it nearly impossible to find sponsors.
FIFA’s bait-and-switch on sponsorships could cost US cities $250m during 2026 World Cup

HOPE IS POWERFUL.

Hope is the thing with feathers
Emily Dickinson

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
