Hey @NPR @nytimes great coverage of the Chicago march. Did you see that there was one in DC too? Thousands of people demonstrated, including city officials, religious leaders, and past mayors. The occupation of DC is terrorizing Black people & immigrants. I don’t see that in your coverage though.

Trump’s State Department is spending $300K to incinerate 500 tons of emergency food aid and nearly $10M in contraceptives instead of distributing it to those in dire need, as intended.

ON APPLICATION TO VACATE THE ORDER ISSUED BY THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA (March 5, 2025] On February 13, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia entered a temporary restraining order enjoining the Government from enforcing directives pausing disbursements of foreign development assistance funds. The present application does not challenge the Government's obligation to follow that order. On February 25, the District Court ordered the Government to issue payments for a portion of the paused disbursements-those owed for work already completed before the issuance of the District Court's temporary restraining order-by 11:59 p.m. on February 26. Several hours before that deadline, the Government filed this application to vacate the District Court's February 25 order and requested an immediate administrative stay. THE CHIEF JUSTICE entered an administrative stay shortly before the 11:59 p.m. deadline and subsequently referred the application to the Court. The application is denied. Given that the deadline in the challenged order has now passed, and in light of the ongoing preliminary injunction proceedings, the District Court should clarify what obligations the Government must fulfill to ensure compliance with the temporary restraining order, with due regard for the feasibility of any compliance timelines. The order heretofore entered by THE CHIEF JUSTICE is vacated.

Do people here in the US understand what the "freeze" on US foreign aid really means? Thousands of people are being furloughed. Feeding, malaria and HIV programs are going dark. And now they are suspending sr staff because they might be trying to save programs.

The Trump administration has issued several executive orders aimed at #LGBTQ+ people that pose real dangers, especially for transgender and nonbinary individuals. These policies will not be in effect immediately and will almost certainly be challenged in court.

Individuals experience gender in diverse ways, and they need policies that are responsive to their gender identity. Rejecting gender diversity—by denying people's needs, and even their basic existence—will lead to flawed policies and cause significant harm. It will negatively impact mental health and promote discrimination and violence against transgender and nonbinary individuals. A responsible government must adopt evidence-based policies that protect the rights of all individuals. Acknowledging diverse identities is essential for ensuring bodily autonomy, access to health care and safety for everyone.
