Moving from curriculum to SEND has been a move from research-driven approaches with lots of examples of successful implementation to, quite frankly, the wild west.
@bennewmark.bsky.social has shaped lots of my thinking as a new SENCO. Must-read blog!

Great session on creating a culture of reading for pleasure from @lilystaff.bsky.social
Especially loving the points about fostering a culture of pupils talking about what they read.

A lot of discussion lately about the reasons for the decline of Eng Lit A-level.
Are the Gove curriculum & exam reforms to blame?
I don't think so, because the decline of Eng Lit / the humanities more broadly is a global trend.
More here.

The fall of Eng Lit
What is the cause, is it a problem - and if so, what can we do about it?

If we put honour and prestige on the hard work we are also being inclusive. And it is where the honour really is. Andy Murray is as great for his latter career heroics against the dying of the light than his titles because we understand the heroism in giving your all when you don't "win".
Agree - they should never be used. Ever. It’s a ridiculous idea. The number one question every teacher should consider is: do your pupils work hard enough? Both in lessons and at home. If the answer is no, do something! THAT is the target.

A-Level English is what inspired me to study English at uni!
Numbers taking English A-levels in 2024 rose by more than 5% and numbers taking the A-level in English Literature grew by a very significant 8%. Overall numbers of A-levels awarded only rose by 2.5% meaning that English is becoming an increasingly popular choice relative to other subjects. 4/5
