Modfest 2026, Sounding the Visionary, has an incredible line-up—leading the way is the award-winning opera, Computing Venus, based on the life of astronomer and Vassar professor Maria Mitchell. Can't make it to campus? Watch the livestream of Saturday's performance.

Watched the first act of the Bieito Lohengrin from Berlin Staatsoper (2020).

Kind of amazing that the Herald is strutting around on stage like a fancy lizard and the Emcee from Cabaret

I mostly drink Camellia sinensis but it's also fun to grab a pile of fresh and dried herbs and I think Figment agrees

Social movements are strong when the rowdy and the peaceful elements work in solidarity with one another. The myth of the provocateur is spread specifically because it undermines that solidarity.

I was about eight standing on a large wooden toy box to read the large map of the world on the wall and fell off splitting my forehead open on the floor that was linoleum over concrete
What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain.

Oh look it's my favorite production of what might be my favorite opera
January 6, 2026 at 1:30 AM
I counted at least five sections where the chorus came through the speakers.

And it's difficult to be sure because of the amplified harp but I think Oropesa (Elvira) sings her first section of act 3 offstage and thus through the speaker, too
It sounds amazing, except when the chorus is offstage and "digitally projected" so they're not inaudible.

The set does not pass the simple test of letting the opera happen on stage.

In Greenpoint for La Voix humaine. This is likely the smallest room I've seen an opera in!

I'll stop posting about how much I dislike this I puritani eventually; I have a ticket for Saturday night and I guess I'm trying to see if I don't want to attend but I probably still do

The cast was that good with this score

A) none of these assholes are actually going to leave CA based on a new tax.
B) I actually wish they would leave. These fuckers are ruining my home state.
