Fantastic to see the UK Govt has now set out timeliness for the Renters Rights Act. Older renters need the protections it will bring as soon as possible.

Ageing doesn't have to mean hardship and insecurity but the UK Government must act now to #MakeAgeingFair.

With the Budget approaching, ask your MP to support the millions of older people forced to make impossible choices each day to get by:

So worrying to see these stats today showing even more older people living on a low income are missing out on the #PensionCredit they're entitled to. A sustained, strategic approach is needed from UK Government and Scottish Govt to tackle this issue as soon as possible
An estimated £2.5 billion in Pension Credit wasn't received in 2023/24, a sharp increase on the year before.

It is unacceptable that this vital support is failing to reach the older people who need it most.

Action is needed more urgently than ever.

Such good news! The Renters Rights Bill will be a game changer for renters of all ages. It will make such a substantial difference to the challenges people currently face #rent #renters #renters #renting #rentersrightsbill
We welcome the Renters' Rights Bill's passing. For years, we've called for a better deal for older renters, and it’s good to see parliamentarians taking action.

What the Bill won’t address is the quality and affordability of rented homes. This must change.

Another reason the government must unfreeze Local Housing Allowance and create a reliable link with rents.

We really don’t want to see these numbers continuing to climb.
Homelessness stats just out show another new record in households (132k) and children (172k) living in temporary accommodation. Up 7.5% in last year

We know #renters of all ages living on a low income can't afford the ever increasing #rents and Housing Benefit doesn't touch the sides for many. @independentage.bsky.social has joined others to call on the UK Government to uprate Local Housing Allowance in the their budget #rent #renting #campaign
We’re proud to have joined with over 40 organisations including campaigners for tenants, homelessness and debt advice charities, landlord organisations and others in calling on the UK government to unfreeze local housing allowance at the upcoming budget.

So sad to hear about the death of #PatriciaRoutledge.

At 95 she wrote this and it's always stayed with me.

"When I was younger, I often worried I wasn’t good enough—that I'd never be cast again, that I'd disappoint my mother. But these days begin in peace and end in gratitude."

With the #Holyrood election on the horizon, it's vital that all political parties in #Scotland take action to support older people living on a low income. @independentage.bsky.social has released our 'Security not struggle' manifesto to reduce #pensioner poverty
Almost 160,000 pensioners live in poverty in Scotland - more than at any time in nearly 20 years.

It's time to change our systems to deliver security, not struggle, for older people in Scotland.

Ahead of 2026's Holyrood election, we're calling for action.
