This is Deb Haaland, American politician and member of the Laguna Pueblo. Elected the same time as Sharice Davids, Haaland was one of the first two Native American women to be seated in the U.S. Congress, as representative for New Mexico's 1st district.

Most of these are from the week before; this hasn't really been a movie-watching week for me. Resident Evil is increasingly ridiculous but still kind of fun. Hellboy's aesthetic was great; a little polish on the plot could have elevated it significantly.

This is Dave Anderson. He's famous. More precisely, he's the founder of the Famous Dave's barbecue restaurant chain. A citizen of the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians and descendant of the Choctaw Nation, he launched the chain in 1994. 🧵

This is actor Wes Studi, member of the Cherokee Nation. Perhaps the most recognized Native American actor working today, Studi made his debut in a TV movie, "The Trial of Standing Bear", and had his breakout role in 1992 as Mague in "The Last of the Mohicans". 🧵

Happy Halloween! Got somewhere between 25-30 trick-or-treaters this year, which is maybe just a bit higher than normal for this neighborhood. Even had one group of 9 kids; not sure if they all started out together or if there was just a trick-or-treat traffic jam at my house.

Can't carve this year (rat infestation, don't want to feed them), so I thought I'd share my pumpkins from 2022-2024. I like doing cartoon chars (Creeper from Scooby-Doo, My Pet Monster, and Count Duckula) & heads for my pumpkin zombie stand, Undead Fred. I design all the patterns myself. #Halloween

Honestly not that great a film week for me. A couple duds that were nearly DNFs. Frankenstein was OK but fell short of being good thanks to being a bit thin on content. FD3… it's OK. The kills are still goofy fun. But I'm losing interest. 🧵

All in all a good week in the land of horror. "Land of the Dead" was better than I anticipated; "Children of the Damned" is more retread than sequel, but still OK. "The Fly" is a truly successful remake (the original was good too).

Last 3 were all actually yesterday. The Re-Animator and Jungle Woman trilogies both felt like they'd run their course with these films. Addams despite the orig. cast didn't feel very classic. Ghosts was fun; East Side Kids are surprisingly entertaining.

Being honest, this week was straight-up schlock & none of it was surprising. House of Wax was the exception, almost a 4 star film for me. Crab Monsters was fun. Hillbilllys was my first RiffTrax film (longtime MST3k fan); even they couldn't make it good.

Since many of us are cancelling streaming services, I want to post a little reminder that many library cards will allow you free access to Kanopy, an amazing streaming channel.

If your library card doesn't work, you can often sign up for other libraries in your region.

There are many problems with having little money, and nearly all of them are bigger than the one I'm going to mention now. But I do find it irritating that it's hard to "vote with my wallet". I'd've had a Disney+ account, and canceled it with these events, if I hadn't already done so to save money.
