Big news for housing in our community: Construction starts this month on 158 affordable rentals and 47 supportive homes at the 900 block of Pandora + a new community centre and childcare space.

AND, thanks to the new Infrastructure Projects Act, we’re getting projects like this built faster.

This is such a common #housing myth that it's practically cliche

Housing is not just for "new residents". It's for current residents too. God forbid a resident of the city wants to move our of their parents' home, afford a place in the city they grew up in, or make the leap from renting to owning.
"I'm going to propose something novel to Council," says Councillor Stephen Holyday, who sounds opposed to freezing DCs. "For once, we should put the interests of the existing ratepayers first. Instead of worrying about future residents or developers or other people."

As always, Uytae is a gem, making approachable videos that help explain some of the causes of the housing crisis. Highly recommend to watch if you haven’t yet!

Let’s talk a bit more about development costs, Vancouver in particular. Because we do some things right, and other things horribly wrong.
Very proud and a bit nervous to share About Here’s latest video “The Housing Tax Crisis” with @smallhousing.bsky.social. This script took months of research and a bit of me losing my mind but I think it ultimately tells a profound story about our housing crisis today.

Condo sales are down but some are being converted to rental. Why?
Mentioned in the article: interest rates, a city rental incentive program.
Not mentioned: rental HST removed by feds and province, reduced DCs for 2- and 3-bedroom rentals by province.
Policy matters!

When you don’t build enough housing, many people can’t move out of their parents’ place. Others are stuck living with roommates or even relationships they don’t want.

Remember this every time someone says “we don’t need any more housing” or “what about shadows?”.
Canadian household formation peaked in 1981. While Quebec City and (until recently) Montreal managed to translate income growth into increased household formation, household formation declined in many other parts of Canada. It's mathematically impossible to reverse that without building more homes.
