I guess it's great timing for my 1st post here to share my new #solo paper in #JournalofCriminalJustice

Using the #LoneStarProject, I examine how #stress confounds the association btw #mentalhealth and #offending & #druguse during #reentry in the 1st year out.

If you worked for 18F and got fired, Group together to start a consulting company.

It’s just a matter of time before DOGE needs you to fix the mess they inevitably create.

They will have to hire your company as a contractor to fix it. But on your terms.

I’m happy to invest and/or help

5 ways to celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth (cause the fed govt doesn’t run your house)

1. Find out what Sojourner Truth REALLY said
2. Buy a Black horror, scifi or fantasy book
3. Listen to “Naima” by John Coltrane
4. Send the victims of the LA fires in Altadena a few coins
5. Get a library card

We focus a lot on how tough the summers can be for facilities without AC… but prisons and jails aren’t exactly replete with blankets and other ways to stay warm. Cold spells like this can be tough to navigate, especially in states that aren’t used to them.

"A 10ºF decrease in temperature averaged over 6 days was associated with a 5.1% increase in total mortality"

It's not just heat that can be fatal behind bars. Prisons & jails do not have the infrastructure to handle climate events – from extreme temps to natural disasters

Prison abuse, deaths and escapes prompt calls for more oversight • Alabama Reflector
As state legislatures convene in the coming weeks, many lawmakers are focusing on a key criminal justice issue for prisons and jails: more oversight.

It’s great that these incarcerated workers earn market wages. It’s horrible that news stories like this one treat “pay-to-stay” fees as normal, if not desirable.

“Like inmates in work-release programs … 10 percent of remote workers’ wages go to the state to offset the cost of room and board.”
‘This is my way out.’ In Maine, remote work gives prisoners a lifeline. - The Boston Globe
Remote work has spread far and wide since the pandemic spurred a work-from-home revolution of sorts, but perhaps no place more unexpectedly than behind prison walls.
